So two days in a row of body parts. It was a weird thing to be oddly grateful for a transfer for. But there was no other relation between the three of them other than cell assignment so something definitely happened on patrol. Something that the surveillance was not catching, something that liked leaving little dead parts as presents. It was really cheery. Not that Ash did not trust the agents the put on watch but this was her old team and a new assignment didn’t change that fact one bit. Besides Sitwell had decided to make it more officially Ashley’s problem by putting her in charge of interviews after the fact. Hell, Ashley was still getting used to someone other than Shepard having faith in her when it came to work. So that’s how Ashley found herself in a sort of patrol outside Buffy’s apartment. The hallways were quiet, everyone pretty much asleep. Then again it was almost 3 a.m. She had given Renee a sleepy heads up before she headed out. It was not as if she needed sleep. That was a lie she did but there were some things that were more important. And it was not exactly like Ashley needed a regular sleep schedule. That was slightly less of a lie. Ashley was more than awake to see the slight blur in the corner of her eye. Instinct took over and her pistol was out of its holster. She spun to put her eyes on the target that was moving almost too fast for her to see. But it seemed that moving caused whatever it was to notice her as soon as she noticed it. Her sights found themselves trained on what could only be described as a big hulking zombie. Bigger than one of the husks she had seen back with the geth, no technology integrated in but there was definitely the whole dead part going on. Undead. Definitely more Buffy’s territory than hers. But there was no hesitation, Ashley landing a shot dead center mass. For a second it looked as if the bullet might have actually done something. But it was just a minute before the creature turned its dead eyes back up at her and let out a bit of an unholy noise that Ashley could only guess was anger. And now its attentions were solely focused on her and it made the turn to charge. Well, that could of gone better. For a dead thing it moved ridiculously fast. It turned and closed the distance between the two of them. Ashley brought her arm up fast, slamming an elbow against its neck as it bowled her over. The force knocked her gun from her hand but at least she kept most of the air in her lungs as it lunged forward. There was no way Ashley was trained enough to keep from crying out when teeth sunk into her neck. Fuck fuck, there was way too much important shit there and of course the thing aimed for where her shield issued uniform didn’t cover. But there was no way in hell that she was going to go down in the middle of some hallway. Adrenaline rushed in and she shoved her arm hard into the creature’s throat, forcing it up as her other hand scrambled for her gun. Maybe it didn’t work but it was the only thing that she had. A lucky grasp and she had it in hand, bringing it in close and unloading two more shots into its torso. The force of the shots was enough to stun it long enough to push the thing off. Dead weight was the pun that ran through Ash’s adrenaline soaked brain and she made a note to remember it to tell Renee. You know, if she managed to survive which would be nice. Scrambling to her feet Ashley clamped her free hand tight on the wound that was starting to gush a bit from her neck. “I better not become a fucking zombie.” She swore loudly before backing up towards Buffy’s door with her gun trained on the creature as it started to move again. “Slayer this would be a damn good time to burst in as the cavalry!” |
