Who: Mae Crawford and Nick Ryves
When: December 31, 2012
Where: Argosy Book Store, New York City
What: Mae takes Nick around the city since she's really afraid he's going to end up trying to kill someone.
Rating: PG-13 at best
Taking Nick out into the city probably wasn't the best idea, but if Mae knew him as well as she hoped, she knew Nick was going to get restless sooner or later. The city would be good for him, allow him to stretch his legs, and gather his surroundings. Hopefully it would also bring him some kind of strange sense of peace so he didn't want to murder every person they passed.
The tower was nice and allowed Mae to visit with Nick when needed - which was more often than not - but even she wanted to venture out into the city unknown. She had never visited the states before, or crossed the pond, and she couldn't wait to see what this place had to offer. Everyone had heard about New York City. You would have had to be living under a rock if you hadn't heard about it, or from another world altogether. The latter wasn't entirely out of the question considering what the circumstances were for everyone who was there, of course. That was another reason why Mae wanted to get Nick out and away from the tower for a while: too many reasons to go looking for a fight.
Her hand firmly in his and one of her earbuds resting in her ear, the other in Nick's, Mae believed she was practically dragging him through the city. It was crowded, as she had read it would be, and she knew crowds weren't really Nick's favorite thing, but she wrote it off as part of his lessons.
She had slowed her fast-paced walk down every so often to gaze at items in store windows, but never fully stopped. Not until they reached a rather old bookstore. That had caught Mae's attention more than the tee shirt shop with the brightly-colored tops and odd sayings. The outside looked like ones she had seen back home in London and even had an antique lamp hanging outside. "Let's go inside." It wasn't really a question as she dragged Nick inside after her.
The door opened to a cheery ring of a bell and the smell of old books filled her with a warm sense of comfort. Alan liked stores like this. She had first met Alan in a store like this, which had brought her to Nick, whom's hand received a quick and firm squeeze.
"They might have some books on weaponry. We can check it out." She paused, though, turning to face Nick. "And I hope you didn't bring the gift I gave you for Christmas."
