He got off the elevator and looked at the piece of paper in his hand. Apartment 2104 they’d told him and his roommate was Luke Skywalker. Sulu had no idea who that was but he took a wild guess that the guy had to be from outer space. Skywalker wasn’t exactly a common name. He hoped he wasn’t some kind of weird alien because that would suck but he wouldn’t know until he got there so with a sigh he headed down the hall toward the door of his new home for however long he was going to be here. Sulu used the key card that he’d been given and opened the door, picking up the small bag of things that the housing assistant had given him. It wasn’t much but there was a debit card to help him out until he could find work as well as some clothes to get by with until he could find some. The last thing he wanted to do was spend his entire time in his Starfleet uniform. “Hey,” he called out when he had shut the door behind him. “Anyone home?” Luke had recognised the piece of paper telling him that he had a new roommate straight away. There had been a lot over his time here - his son, Simon Tam, Quentin Blake and now another one. Those were just the ones he remembered off the top of his head. He knew it was bad but he focused on other things for the most part allowing the housemates to go about their own business. He was curious about his new roommate though. He vaguely remembered him being here previously though he hadn’t had anything to do with him during that time. Hearing the door open and someone call out he made his way to the entrance. “Hey,” he said giving the other man a grin. “You must be Hikaru, I’m Luke,” he said offering the man his hand. Sulu shook Luke’s hand and smiled in return. “I am although most people just call me Sulu, it’s easier to remember and it’s nice to meet you, Luke.” He looked around the apartment. “Not bad. I had no idea what to expect, I wasn’t sure what this place would be like when I got here and there were all these people standing over me. Some of them looked like they’d be more than happy to shoot me if given the chance.” Sulu supposed it made sense because after all anyone or anything could show up here from what he’d gathered and for all they knew he was some kind of criminal from another dimension. “Where can I put my stuff?” he asked, holding up the bag. “not that it’s much stuff. Just what they gave me until I can go shopping. Not looking forward to that.” Like a lot of men, Sulu hated shopping. That was the beauty of Starfleet, you were assigned uniforms and outside of having to wash them, you didn’t have to worry about them. “Sulu it is then,” Luke said grinning.”I know the feeling but they and you will get used to it. I mean it’s not all that bad after awhile. Might just take some adjusting too,” he said with a shrug. Luke adapted fairly well though he had been overwhelmed by the size of it all - he had never been to a place so crowded and built up though he later realised it was a lot like Coruscant in a lot of ways. Not that he had ever been to the capital. “You’re room’s through there,” he said indicating to one of the doors coming off the living room. I may have grabbed the master one for myself so hope you don’t mind. Bathroom’s opposite it and yeah that’s about it,” he said with a shrug. “Shopping’s not bad and I can at least show you how to get things cheaply if you want?” he offered. “No that’s fine. You were here first, you should get the master,” Sulu smiled and walked into the bedroom, putting down the small bag he’d been given. The room was a decent size, it needed something to brighten it up, plants of course but he could take care of that easily enough. He came back out and looked at Luke. “That would be great. I never visited New York in my time and I’m sure this is not at all like it will be when we get there. Nothing is flying around in the sky for one thing.” “Where do you come from?” Sulu asked. Luke looked human which was a relief, not that Sulu was scared of aliens but it would just make things more comfortable. “I got the whole ‘you’re a fictional character here’ speech when I got here so I know that much. They didn’t tell me anything about you though other than your name.” “Great,” Luke said with a nod. “Things can be fairly expensive here so yeah,” he said with a shrug. “That’s true - it took me awhile not to have that sort of thing here either. I mean I had never been into space but I had the opportunity to do so and we had speeders and the like, I suppose a bit like hover cars?” he sPike tooaid with a shrug. “Anyway, I’m from a planet called Tatooine which is completely different to here. Then again it is a desert with two suns orbiting it,” he told Sulu. “I’m from a movie series called Star Wars, did they mention what you’re from? Anyway if not yours is Star Trek and the new movies - there’s a few of your crew here already,” he told him. “Did you want to head out now or get settled first? Up to you.” “It is Star Trek and yeah the new movies,” Sulu nodded. “the guys said there were some people here. Not sure who though. They said to post on the network and they’d reply so I’ll do that later.” He was anxious to check out the city right now. “No let’s go ahead and go out now. I want to see what’s out there. Besides I feel a little weird. I guess coming through that thing does that to you.” “I thought so. Well as far as I know Christine and Uhura are here so’s your Captain and Spock. Chekov and Admiral Pike. I think actually most of the main crew are from your world,” he added after a moment. “They’re right though you’ll find out for sure when you get around to posting - it’s a great way of meeting people.” Luke nodded, “That’s understandable it will take some getting used too but you’ll get there. Let me grab my stuff and we can head off then.” |
