Who: Pansy Parkinson & Daphne Greengrass
When: Backdated to Tuesday, December 18th
Where: Daphne's apartment
What: Tea and chatter
Rating: Caution for swearing and ranting about Potters/Weasleys

These past few days had been the strangest, and most upsetting days that Pansy had ever experienced. She'd been pulled away from her home and into a different timeline, there were Potters everywhere, there were storybook, movie, and television characters who had come to life, she found out she was a book character, dead people were coming back from the grave with no idea they ever died, and now she found out Voldemort, her Dark Lord, was a Halfblood. Could things get any worse? Probably. She was pretty much bracing herself for anything now.

Pansy was happy to be going to see Daphne. She had always had a strong friendship with the girl even if they didn't agree on everything one hundred percent of the time. Daphne understood her. Daphne, Morag and Millicent were the only ones that knew more about Pansy than anyone else did. And then there was Draco, but Pansy had cut him out of her life years ago. She had brushed he and his family off as cowards and weak; but now with what she was hearing about Voldemort, maybe there was more to the story. She was going to finish reading those books.

Pansy made her way over to Daphne's apartment and stood there for a moment before knocking on the door. She gave herself a quick look-over to make sure her outfit looked okay, grabbed the box of tarts in her hand a little tighter and then knocked on the door.

Daphne opened the door almost immediately. Unlike some of the society ladies she knew, she didn't believe making people wait by being fashionably late, or pretending she had better things to do than to answer the door; she found it obnoxiously coy. When she was delayed, it was usually for a good reason, usually involving work.

Now, however, without Greengrass Enterprises and her family's ruined reputation to rebuild, Daphne had nothing more pressing on her time than trying to figure out the labyrinthian details of this society's financial system.

So when Pansy knocked, she set down the book she'd been reading and swiftly crossed the room to open it.

"Pansy!" Daphne rarely smiled as warmly as she did for her friend. "Come on in. You're managing to make Muggle clothing look glamourous."

She herself was wearing simple slacks and a blouse, but it was an outfit that was more elegant than she usually wore. For all that Daphne was often cited as one of the most beautiful girls at Hogwarts, she never flaunted it. If anything, her taste ran to the more conservative. But Gabriel had dragged her out shopping, and inflicted age-appropriate clothing on her.

Pansy laughed as she entered. "Considering Muggle clothing is all they have here, it'll have to do." She gave a small shrug. She didn't mind their clothes, really. Them themselves... well that was another story.

"And you look gorgeous as always." And she did. Daphne and her sister had both been born with great features.

"I brought these along," Pansy stated as she handed Daphne the box of tarts. She did a quick one-over of the room and nodded approvingly. "I think your apartment is bigger than ours. Do you have a roommate? They've put me with Morag Macdougle."

"Oh, they look delicious, thank you." Daphne accepted the box and stepped aside to let Pansy in, then closed the door behind her friend. "Please, have a seat; tea will be ready for a moment."

She'd managed to find a store that sold loose leaf tea rather than tea bags, which she considered a victory. There seemed to be a coffee shop on every corner here, but quality tea was difficult to find.

Once she had the tarts arranged on a platter - no eating out of the box for the Slytherin girls - she headed over to the living room with the food.

"You're lucky," she said, a little enviously. "I wish I could've roomed with you both. But I suppose Gabriel's an acceptable roommate. You remember Gabriel; he was Alex's friend."

A tinge of sadness touched her voice when she spoke of her incarcerated brother, as it always did. Daphne adored her older brother and spent more of her childhood trying to tag along after him and his friends than playing with her own. She liked Pansy, of course - the other girl had become her closest friend - but Alexander had always been her first choice for a playmate.

"They're pretty good. I've found a bakery that makes things from scratch. Apparently this America place makes and eats a lot of processed foods. They are positively disgusting."

Pansy took a seat on a sofa in the living room. She sat with her legs crossed and her back straight. She had a proper upbringing and though her mouth usually ran away with her, she still had most of her etiquette intact. She continued to eye the room as her friend went off to fix their tea.

"The accommodations are good. I couldn't imagine having to share with someone I didn't know. Or a Potter or Weasley. Could you imagine? I wouldn't be able to contain myself. I'd have to injure them." She laughed darkly and then leaned forward and took a cup of tea and a cherry tart off of the tray. "We'd love to have you there. And if things don't work out with Gabriel then we can arrange to have you move in. Or maybe they can give us a three bedroom. They have those here, from what I've heard.

She nibbled on her tart and sipped her tea. "I remember him." She picked up on the tone change in Daphne's voice. "You know, if we've been sent here to this place and are away from our world, the same could happen to Alexander. Hell, Regulus Black is here and he's been dead since before we were even born."

"True," Daphne acknowledged. "This place isn't where is want to be by any means, but for Alexander it's got to be better than that magic-forsaken place they've got him locked up in."

Her bitterness at her brother's date was obvious. Although she tended to time it down in public, where Death Eater sympathies were few and far between, she didn't hide it from her friend.

At the same time, she didn't want to dwell on such a painful subject, either. "In any case, Gabriel is all right, for now. It's just...well. It's a little complicated at the moment, that's all. As for Regulus Black, I did see that he was here. Is it really him?"

"Yes. It would definitely be better than being locked away." Pansy sighed and closed her eyes briefly. She couldn't imagine what it would be like to be confined to one small room for an unforseen amount of time. She'd go absolutely crazy in a place like that. "Imagine all of the ones they brought there coming here? Hell, we'd take over in less than a day." She raised her brow and grinned thinking about that actually happening.

Pansy cocked her head to the side and looked at her friend curiously. "Complicated? How so?" Daphne couldn't just leave it at that. Pansy wanted details, of course.

"Yes, it's definitely Regulus Black. Can you believe it? An eligible Black!"

Daphne couldn't help but smile at Pansy's enthusiasm. She understood it, because she - like all girls raises in pure blood society - knew the importance of marrying well. And Regulus Black was very much the epitome of marrying well.

It was just that she'd never had the time to think about such things. With her father dead and her brother in Azkaban, it had been up to her to keep the family and Greengrass Enterprises together.

Here, however, there was no family to keep together and no Greengrass Enterprises to run...

"Gabriel will be put out that he is not the only eligible bachelor anymore," she said wryly. "He was trying to convince me to date him on that basis."

Pansy took a moment to ponder over what Daphne had just said. "Even before we came here, he was one of the better selections in our society." He was pure and came from a great family. "His recreational activities may be a little... odd, but at least he's pure." She shrugged. The family name and the blood status should be good enough. "As far as I know, he's one of two eligible people here in this world. And that's only if Regulus doesn't end up being like Sirius. Let's hope for the sake of our kind that he isn't." But then the realization of what Snape told her popped into her head and she doubted what she had just said. "Or..."

Pansy finished her tart and took another sip of her tea.

"Things in our world, for our kind, were not what they appeared to be at all times." She cringed at the thought. "I had a talk with Professor Snape. He clued me into some of the real goings ons behind the scenes, and I've followed up those accusations and find that they are indeed true."

"Gabriel's lineage is impeccable," Daphne acknowledged. "I'm just not sure this is an appropriate time to start anything."

She set down her tea cup, frowning at Pansy's revelation. "That sounds ominous. What do you mean? What accusations?"

Pansy nodded. "Yes. I can see your point there. Until we know what the hell is going on, and if we're ever going back, it's probably best to wait. Just be careful. If more of our society shows up, he may get tired of waiting." One had to be careful not to let someone wait too long.

Pansy sighed heavily. "We can start with our Lord. He was a fucking Halfblood, Daphne." She cringed as the words came out of her mouth. All of the time she had been uplifted by his name, been a true believer, had wanted to do his bidding, probably never would have happened if she knew he was not pure.

"I've checked. It's true."

Even though Daphne had mixed feelings about being with Gabriel, she felt a flash of jealousy at the thought of him with anyone else. Maybe it wasn't wise to start anything now, but Pansy was right. If more of the girls from society showed up, he might decide that he didn't want to wait for her any more.

The news Pansy dropped on her wiped any thiught of Gabriel and her personal life from her mind, however. "What?" she whispered. She felt as if her entire world had been rocked to its core. "A halfblood? But how..."

How could that be? And how had he'd fooled the entire pure blood society into fighting for the ideals they thought he represented? All this time, all the sleepless nights waitin for her father and brother to come home from raids, all the pain and suffering that had come from her father's death and her brother's incarceration, all these sacrifices they'd made because they'd thought it was to save Wizarding society and stop the encroachment of Muggles and Muggleborn into what was theirs. And instead, they'd been following a halfblood? The very thing they'd been fighting against?

"That can't be true," Daohne protested. "How did you check?"
