When they’d said multiple vampires from the Buffy source that had been a bit of an understatement, Wesley thought as he checked the line of sight and then threw a stake across the alleyway so that it landed in the back of a vampire, who didn’t pause nearly as much as Wesley had hoped it would. Dammit, that one hadn’t been one of his vampires, but one of the blasted Twilight vamps. It growled and turned right into fire from someone - and with it thankfully occupied, Wesley turned his attention back to the immediate area around him. An additional vampire growled at him nearby and Wesley reached for another stake and ran forward, using the momentum to help plunge the wood deep into the chest - something easier said than done without the extra strength granted to a Slayer - and found himself instantaneously feeling as if he’d stepped through a dust storm. Wesley stepped back at that point and blinked the dust from his face, trying to take as little time as possible to get back into the game. He ran his arm over his face, and adjusted his grasp on the stake he’d just used on the vampire from his reality, his attention caught by the Twilight-Source vampire that several of the other task force members seemed to be attempting to turn into a giant vampire torch. The area between him and the Twilight vampire seemed to be clear, and Wesley took a step forward towards the Twilight vampire to help the task force members working on that one anyway he could. At least, he attempted to take a step forward. But even before his right foot hit the ground, Wesley found himself pulled backwards and his hand whirled around automatically, the stake seeking out the opponent and Wesley hoping that said opponent was not the second Twilight vampire. The stake met skin, but not heart, and Wesley found himself face to face with one of the vampires from his reality in full game face. Wesley had been doing this too long to freeze up, or to stop fighting upon finding himself that close to that sort of face, but he was also down to one arm - the other held almost twisted behind his back - and he knew he didn’t have a clear aim of the vampire’s chest. So what had to happen was he had to get clear aim, and to do that he was going to have to somehow clear the space between him and the other vampire. A well placed kick gave him inches, but also increased the fury of the demon across from him. Wesley yanked the stake back to plunge it again into something - only to find the stake yanked from his grasp. His head whirled around to find a second vampire. He swore, forgetting that he had a head-set on, and once again aimed a kick against the first vampire, and an elbow against the second, but his angle was terrible, and as if in slow motion he could see the vampire’s eyes meeting him with a sort of glee, and he knew that the next thing he would feel was teeth, even before they pierced the skin. |
