I don't think it helped, but the issues were there and would have been there whether you joined in or not. And I'm not going to defend what the girls did to Meg, because I mean, that's the thing. From what she said, it's not like the situation you're describing-- they weren't coming after her because she was a demon, it was about her getting in the way of their stupid ideas about how my brother and Cas should be sleeping together. Or something, I don't know. I don't want to go back and read it, to be honest, because it'll piss me off again.
I completely agree with you that breaking bones was crossing a line, but I also have to acknowledge that the fans crossed a line first. I'd like to punch a lot of our fans in the face, but I'm not going to, nor am I going to let Meg use their behavior to justify hurting them. I don't think Cas is going to either, even though he was fighting me over it. I think that was more about him being afraid that I was going to hunt her down than him actually believing that she ought to be allowed to run free and use self defense as an excuse for violence. Add in hot tempers and people being hurt (literally and emotionally) and it turned into a way bigger fight than it needed to be.
But that's what family does, we fight. Especially, in my family, if one of us is close to someone that the others don't entirely trust. It's happened way more often than I'd like.
