Alicia loved her job. What she didn’t love was all the paperwork. She’d never been very good at sitting still, so it stood to reason that she was much better at getting out there and doing than she was at the whole documentation thing. That was probably why she was sitting in the Auror’s often long after she had intended to leave catching up on several months worth of paperwork. Being friendly with your boss didn’t get you out of doing the boring stuff, it seemed. She let out a triumphant yell as she dotted her last i and crossed her last t. Alicia was bloody glad to be finished for the night, especially since she knew Ange and Kates were waiting for her! They were having a girls’ night, which was definitely a lot more appealing than sitting here! A stop at the flat to change was needed and then Ali was off to meet her friends. Just before she could apparate to the pub, though, Alicia spotted a strange flash of light out of the corner of her eye. Ali being Ali, she of course had to investigate. --- A small eternity later, Alicia was certain she must have fallen asleep or bumped her head or something. She’d somehow ended up in New York City, which was sort of brilliant, but she hadn’t apparated or anything, not to mention she was in another world. It wasn’t the one she knew - here, she was considered a work of fiction. Hogwarts didn’t exist here, but somehow there were people she knew already here - Harry, Oliver, Katie. After being given her room key, Alicia made her way numbly to the flat she’d be sharing with Katie as she tried to make sense of everything. She was honestly still a bit shocked and confused as she let herself in and stepped into her new home. ~~~ The flat was too quiet. There was no crazy burning toast or loud talking about strange things. No laughter every single day or any of the other things that Katie had gotten used to while she’d been here. Actually it was horrible. She felt abandoned in some ways, although she knew her mates would never actually leave her like that if they had a choice. The problem was, they didn’t have a choice and now Katie was sitting in the flat by herself looking around at all the missing stuff and the insanity of how quiet it was. She considered turning on the telly but she didn’t really feel like that, maybe go down to the pub? Nah, that didn’t sound good. Katie didn’t want to admit to it but she was kind of depressed. She missed her friends, she had some friends still here and she was really lucky and happy to have them all around, but it wasn’t the same. She considered calling Oliver to see what he was up to, but she didn’t want to be pushy or annoying. She considered seeing what Harry or Ron were up to but she’d seen that Lily Evans had left so decided not to do that either. People needed time to get used to things, and Katie needed time too. She was getting ready to just curl up and look out the window with a cup of tea and pretend that the day was moving a lot faster. Sunday should be more fun, not sitting in her room alone. When she heard the front door open she jumped up to go investigate but wasn’t even sure who it could be. As she headed out of her room towards the door. For some reason she expected someone she didn’t know that’d just been placed in with her. “Alicia?” Was all she could make out when she saw her friend. ~~ The SHIELD agents had mentioned that she’d been here before, but Alicia didn’t have any memory of that. She kind of thought they must have mistaken her for someone else, even if they did know her name and seemingly everything about her. She would have remembered something like this, being in New York, being in another world. It felt like something out of one of those Muggle Science Fiction films or something. When she saw Katie and heard her greeting, Alicia’s face lit up with a bright smile. “Kates!” she cried, happy to see her here in the flat. She’d been told she was here, of course, but she hadn’t know they’d be sharing a flat and she was thrilled. She couldn’t imagine it any other way, honestly. And having Katie right here definitely saved her the trouble of having to go track down her friend! ~~~ Without wasting anytime Katie darted towards her friend wrapping her arms around her. “You’re back!” She said, although she knew that Ali didn’t have any clue about being here before. That seemed to be how it worked which always seemed confusing to Katie. The constant coming and going. There were a couple of people who seemed to come and go a lot, which was really hard for the people that loved them. Katie was starting to really hope that it wouldn’t be the case for the people that she cared about. What scared her more now was what if she ended up leaving? She’d hate to do that to people not that she’d know she was doing that. “Did you just get here? Are you okay? Did they explain things to you?” Katie said speaking a little faster than normal. “How old are you? What was happening right before you came?” She added a few more questions. Katie just wanted to have an understanding of where Alicia was coming from and what was happening. Considering that Katie had been the oldest, she was just starting to wonder if she was still going to be the oldest or not. There were so many things she wanted to know! ~~~ Alicia hugged Katie tightly, grinning at the reception she was getting. “So, it’s true I was here before, then? I thought they were taking the mickey or something, I don’t remember being here before!” You couldn’t just forget something like that, right? She laughed when her friend fired a million questions at you. “I’m 25 and I was heading to meet you and Ange for drinks, late as usual because I was buried under a mountain of bloody paperwork. You’d think having played Quidditch with the boss would get me out of it, but no such luck!” That probably didn’t narrow it down, honestly. Meeting the girls for drinks was a pretty regular occurrence, as was Alicia getting stuck with a ton of paperwork after avoiding it all week. ~~~ “Yeah, you left, recently actually. Or were taken recently? I don’t really know how to explain it. It’s weird. Harry’s Mum left too, and Ange, and George. Ollie’s still here...” She said knowing she was rambling a little bit. “I think that’s how it works.. you wouldn’t remember it... It’s weird and it’s complicated and I hate it.” Katie was just really happy that her friend was back. It was going to be great catching up with Oliver, Harry, and Ron and Hermione were here. Ginny was here but she hadn’t really talked to Ginny, she probably should... “I’m sorry, I know that was a lot of questions.” She smiled. “Oh, was this the time you were telling us you got in trouble for saying something about someone’s arse? Or was this another time?” Katie was judging from when Ange and Als were 25. “Oh, and thanks for coming back younger than me... I’m 27...” She said shrugging. ~~~ Alicia laughed. “That really doesn’t narrow it down much, does it?” She grinned and shook her head. It was great that Katie was here. The whole thing was bloody weird, but it helped having Katie around. It’d be better with Ange, of course, but she’d take what she could get. “Ollie’s here? Is it just us three then?” The SHIELD agents had told her there were people she knew here, but she hadn’t gotten a full list or anything. She was glad for Katie and Ollie, at least. They were two of her best mates and she really couldn’t imagine not having them around. She grinned again at Katie’s comment about ages. “Oi, not my fault you came here as an old maid!” she teased. “You’re going to have to fill me in on everything, I can’t believe you’ve gone from a year younger to two years older than me, bint!” It was pretty obvious that she was joking, she just always enjoyed teasing her friends and that was something Katie should be used to by now. ~~~ “I know it doesn’t... I’m sorry.” Katie said shrugging. Katie agreed that she’d love to have Ange back, and George, but at least Ali was back, that was something and she needed her friend back. “Yes, Ollie is here, he actually lives here too.” Katie said with a shrug. “After You, George and Ange left... He moved in.” She shrugged. “You actually have the same room you had before... I know that’s kind of confusing...” “Um.. Harry, Ginny, Hermione, Ron, and Percy are here too.. There are also people from well, before our time, and after... Like Ange and George’s daughter.” Katie said nodding. “It’s kind of interesting that’s for sure.” She said. “That gets confusing too..” “It is completely your fault that you’re younger!” She teased smirking. “I know, well I guess the maturity level is finally in the right age way... too...” ~~~ Alicia shrugged, she wasn’t really all the fussed. Where or when she’d come from hardly mattered at this stage of the game. Katie was here and it seemed like some other people, too. She grinned brightly when Katie told her Oliver was living here in the flat. Ollie was easily one of her best mates, nearly as close as Katie and Ange. So was Harry, these days, after so long working with him in the Auror’s office. “This is all a little mad, but I suppose we’ve been through worse,” she commented with a shake of her head. At least there were plenty of people they knew here and if you were going to be stuck somewhere, New York City seemed like a decent enough place. Alicia snorted at Katie’s comment about maturity. “I don’t know what you mean, Kates, I have always been the mature one,” she managed to say with a completely straight face. ~~~ Though he was loath to admit it, Oliver could be something of a diva when upset. He liked to be paid attention to, and when his friends were not around he seemed to melt like the Wicked Witch of the West in a bucket of water. He had already moved his things into Kates' flat, not wanting to spend another day alone feeling miserable. He was glad that he had Katie, Oliver and...even Percy here. He may not have been a lot of fun, but he needed familiar faces. Of course, he had also been getting to know more people here. Dorcas had been a big help with smashing bottles in the alley, and ice cream and cuddles with Roxanne had proven helpful, but it was a bit different since they didn't know him quite the same way his girls and Georgie did. So, yes, he might have been sulking a bit and holding a bottle of whiskey for he and Miss Kate to drown their sorrows as he came back from his last training session of the day. He approached the door, and felt his heart beat speed up as he heard screeching going on inside the apartment. At first he was nervous and then he heard a familiar voice. ALICIA. Oliver threw open the door and barreled into the sitting room, barely containing his huge grin. "WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?" he cried, before picking her up and twirling her about. ~~ “Yeah, right, you mature Ali?” She teased laughing. She was thinking about saying something else but she didn’t exactly get the chance to because the door was opening and a world wind of a gigantic person was coming towards them. Laughing Katie made sure to back up as quickly as possible to avoid getting hit by Alicia being twirled around by Oliver. “Gosh Oliver, weren’t you that excited to see me?” Katie teased, but really she was just so excited to see Oliver happy and Alicia here. It was one step closer to what she really wanted. She wanted all of the people that she loved and cared about the most there. She didn’t notice it, but Katie started to have slightly happy tears falling from her face. “I think Oliver missed you.” She added to Ali laughing. ~~ “I am the picture of maturi-OOOF.” Before Alicia could even process the fact that he was here and shouting at her, she was being picked up and swung around, not to mention hugged so fiercely that she almost couldn’t breathe. Laughing, Alicia went with it. After all, there was little in the world that was quite so nice as an Ollie hug. “Not my fault I’m his favorite,” she teased, sticking her tongue out at Katie before turning back to Oliver with a big grin on her face. “About time you got here,” she told him. Of course he was happy to see her. Alicia would have accepted nothing less. Maybe she didn’t come right out and say it very often, but Oliver was definitely one of her very favorite people. She didn’t think she could have stood being here without him. |
