If he left his room then there was a chance he would never find his way back. This was not because WALL-E lacked an ability to navigate. Inherently, he could navigate easily any place as long as he knew where he was and had maps. Earth was completely mapped. Google showed him this. But if he left the room he was going to end up finding things, people, places, and they would hold captive his attention each in turn and he was certain he would become overwhelmed and short out again. The first time was not pleasant. It had started pleasantly. A doctor tested his reflexes, it felt funny, then they touched his skin and he laughed when they got to certain points, and then they pressed something to his skin and it was cold, cold, cold and then they spoke and took vitals and WALL-E was scared and cold and warm and also a little giddy and mostly confused And then he passed out. It was not pleasant at all. He worried about that so when he was delivered to his room he took an hour to walk around it and observe everything. Another few hours to simply keep walking, even if his legs hurt a bit, because he kept tripping over his feet and the feel of the movement was hard to get used to. All the while he indulged in making new friends, but even that stimulation proved utterly strange and overwhelming... so no, leaving could not happen, not yet. But now he had a dragon woman coming over and WALL-E was scared. Scared he might pass out again and scared he might do something... humiliating? That was the word, but the emotion felt weird to consider. Then he heard the door knock. With quick movements to the door he opened it wide, hand drawing back quickly at how cold the knob was. "Oh. Hello!" |
