Magnus didn’t waste any time when Alec told him that he didn’t want to be alone. Fortunately he didn’t have far to go as the Shadowhunter’s apartment was just down the hall from his own. He knew how close Alec was with his family and thus how difficult it must be for him to have found both his parabatai and his sister suddenly gone. Even though he had no family to speak of himself, Magnus could certainly relate. His time spent in this alternate New York had been among the loneliest he’d ever felt in his long life. It didn’t help matters either that he didn’t have his usual work to attend to in this world. The title of High Warlock of Brooklyn had no real meaning here, after all. Now that he had Alec had been slowly reacquainting themselves however he’d felt some of that sense of isolation start to dissipate and he was grateful for it. He missed his boyfriend terribly but he had to consistently remind himself to be patient. Seeing Alec now was always accompanied by a wave of bittersweetness. This Alec had been taken only a few months before Magnus had been but it had been enough to undo their entire relationship in the process. Magnus didn’t blame Alec for not remembering, of course. But not being able to be with him in that way that Magnus had grown accustomed to was difficult and at times painful. The last thing he wanted to do however was to push too hard and risk losing Alec completely. And so while they were getting easier, each of their encounters still involved a careful amount of measured caution and discretion on Magnus’s part. At any rate, it didn’t matter at the moment that he and Alec weren’t together, Magnus reminded himself. It mattered that Alec was hurting and Magnus wasn’t about to just abandon him. Pushing the difficulties of their complicated predicament to the back of his mind, the warlock took a deep breath before knocking on the door. “Alec? It’s me.” |
