Being hurt - emotionally, that is - wasn't something Alicia dealt with very well. She wasn't the kind of girl to wear her heart on her sleeve, but it was usually obvious to those who really knew her when something was up. "I'm going out" was generally code for "I'm in a shitty mood," but Alicia knew Ollie and Katie would see through her mood, anyway. Harry might have and even James if he'd gotten to know her so well if it hadn't been for the fact that lying was so much easier in a text. It was easier to pretend she was okay with things when they were just words on a screen. She wasn't, though. She wasn't okay with not having a chance to get to know the grown up version of a baby she'd held mere days ago, a man who she'd apparently been pretty involved in when she'd been here, herself, recently. She wasn't okay with not getting to hang out with a man who had been her friend since she was 13, who she'd worked so closely with for the past 6 years, who'd become one of her closest friends. And Alicia couldn't even lash out at them, these men who she cared about each in their own way. She couldn't tell them how she felt about it, because she knew that would hurt them and that wasn't something she wanted, either. Still, Alicia knew her own temper and she knew her own breaking point. She knew if she didn't do something to blow off some steam, she was going to snap. That is why her phone had been cleverly left with Katie before she hit the bar. Somehow, she felt having that handy after she'd had a few drinks wouldn't be a good idea. Alicia flirted with the bartender, as was her style. She downed a few shots of something that wasn't nearly as potent as fire whiskey, but, hey, it'd do in a pinch. Once she felt sufficiently buzzed, she hit the dance floor and began to lose herself in the music. Earlier, she'd wanted to punch something or someone. This seemed like a much healthier way to work it all out, even if her mum wasn't here to complain about the bruises if she had taken the other option. She didn't fancy getting arrested, though. And Alicia always had loved to dance. |
