Hazel was nervous. He knew very little about what a date involved despite having looked up a few things on the computer. Picking the girl up seemed to be tradition and then going to eat or something along those lines was also customary. Hazel just hoped that he wouldn’t make a fool of himself because he liked Usagi. She was very pretty and she had always been nice to both him and Fiver. He knew that some of the people in the Tower felt odd about them because they used to be rabbits but Usagi didn’t and he was glad for that. It was one minute to seven when he knocked on her door and he tried his best not to fidget too much while he waited for her to answer. Hazel had been here before, for dancing lessons, but this was a completely different thing and he put his hands in his pockets so he wouldn’t be tempted to try and comb his nonexistent ears which was a nervous habit of his. Usagi was very excited about her date. It was still a little weird for her since she knew she was in a relationship with Mamoru back home, but she had been here for months. He may never show up. She just hoped that everything was okay at home and enjoy herself for now. She also really enjoyed Hazel’s company and it was so interesting to talk to him about being a bunny and just helping him out with anything really. She had bought herself a new dress for her dinner date so that she’d look nice and to satisfy her shopping needs and was ready to go whenever Hazel arrived. It’d been awhile since she’d been on a date and she hoped that she still remembered how dates were supposed to go. Usagi heard the knock on her door and knew it was Hazel. He was so much more prompt than she was. If she had to pick him up, she’d probably end up being twenty minutes late. “Hi, Hazel! You look very nice.” Usagi greeted him with a huge smile. ”Thank you,” he said. “So do you.” And she did. She was very pretty and tonight she looked particularly so. “Are you ready to go?” They were only going downstairs to Sam’s but Hazel wanted everything to go well. “I think it is early enough that it should not be too crowded.” He smiled at her and held out his arm since he’d read somewhere on the internet that that was what one did when out with a girl. “Shall we?” he said, waiting for her to take his arm. “Thanks!” Usagi nodded her head to indicate that she was ready to go. “Yeah, I think it will all be good when we go down.” She was glad they were just going to Sam’s. Usagi was still learning the city and only knew where the best places to shop were and the best ice cream places and she really didn’t want to get lost tonight. “We shall!” Usagi said as she took his arm. Hazel smiled at her as they walked to the elevator. “Thank you for agreeing to have dinner with me. I thought that we should do this before the prom so that we might get to know each other. Even though we have been dancing, we have not really had the chance to talk.” He was trying his best to learn what kinds of things men talked about and also to remember that they weren’t all men. He tended to group all humans together as men even though he was very much aware that Usagi was not a man. "I think it's a terrific idea!" Usagi did want to get to know him some more and he was right, they didn't talk much when they practiced dancing. What talk they did have was about the dancing. It never took much for Usagi to like a guy, any guy. Any that looked attractive to her and talked to her was someone she definitely talked to. And Hazel was just fascinating to her and she really liked him. "How have you been lately?" Usagi asked when they got to the elevator. “I have been good,” he replied as they got into the elevator. “I am still looking for a job however. I really am not qualified to do anything in this world. I have filled out some applications but the fact that I have no second name seems to be an issue.” Hazel had not known that such a thing as a last name existed until he had arrived her. There was also the fact that his name struck most people as being odd so very few employers would even give him a second glance. “Perhaps I should try one of the places in the tower. At least they wouldn’t think me strange.” "Do you want to pick a second name to help with the job search?" Usagi asked. She had never really thought about it because she had a second name. At least in this life she did. She began to wonder if her past life had a second name. "The employers here won't need it. I could always talk to Setsuna. She runs the tea shop here. Or there's the coffee shop and Sam's. And the vet and the clinic. I'm sure one of them could help out!" “I do not know how I would do with sick animals but that is a possibility. Maybe I would be able to help them in some way since I can understand them. Or at least some of them.” It had never crossed Hazel’s mind to look into that. Perhaps Usagi was right. “That was a very good idea, thank you. If you would talk to your friend that would be good as well. I could do whatever you need. I’m very good at keeping things clean.” "You're welcome! And I will certainly talk to Setsuna." Usagi made a mental note to write to Setsuna if she didn't see her first and hoping that she wouldn't forget. "I hope all of this helps and you find something suited right for you!" She gave him a big smile. “Thank you very much. I hope so too,” they had reached the bottom floor and Hazel let Usagi step off the elevator first. “After you,” he said and smiled at her before taking her hand and heading in the direction of Sam’s. Hazel liked the way her hand felt in his, it was small and warm, a very pleasant feeling. In fact, being with her was just pleasant all the way around. Usagi nodded her head as she stepped off the elevator and let Hazel take her hand before heading to Sam’s. This felt so natural to her, although she’d only ever held Mamoru’s hand before this. “I don’t know if I’ve asked you this before, but have you ever seen a movie? We could go sometime to a cinema and see something.” Usagi suggested as they entered Sam’s for dinner. “Or we could do something else.” Hazel shook his head as they headed for an empty table. “No I have never seen a movie. I have heard of them and I would like to see one though. I have read that they made a movie out of the book that was written about our adventures but I believe it is several years old.” He wasn’t sure that he would want to see it even if he could find a copy. After all, he’d lived it and couldn’t imagine wanting to watch someone else’s interpretation of it. “I should take you to the movies then. It’ll be fun!” Usagi wasn’t sure what he came from or about a movie that he was probably in. As she sat down she asked, “Do you want to see the movie that you are from or do you want to see something new? I’m fine with either option!” “Oh something new I think would be better. I do not really want to see my life or read about it. I have already experienced it you see.” He smiled at her and picked up the list of food...the menu..and looked at it. Hazel already knew what he was going to order. Salad because that’s what he was used to and probably some fruit which he had come to enjoy since he’d been in this body. “I am sure we can find something to watch.” “Okay! We don’t have to and we will watch something new.” Usagi said before she looked at the menu herself. Everything sounded good and it was hard to pick something to eat, especially with desserts. “I’ll find us something good to watch and it will be fun and good!” |
