I'm sure we've all noticed or noticed subconsciously, but most of the doubles and triples and quadruples are from alternate universes resembling our host one: Tony Stark (4), Steve Rogers (3), Clint Barton (3, 2), James Barnes (2), Natasha Romano(v/ff) (2), Nick Fury (2), Loki (2), Alex Summers (2), Scott Summers (2), Janet Van Dyne (2), T'Challa (2). Besides the numbers, there's plenty of versions of people here people know other versions of in their universes.
They aren't alone. There are two Spocks, which isn't surprising, given our universes are likely located fairly near each other. We also have Sherlock Holmes (3), and Jo(h/a)n Watson (3, 2). Those universes differ a fair bit more from each other than those Starfleet people are from.
And if I'm remembering correctly, Sam Merlotte (and formerly Jason Stackhouse) is from another universe than the Sookie Stackhouse, which shows more potential for doubles.
In the cases where our universes are fictionalized, it's easy to see why: Original Universe and AU Universe, the various Sherlock Holmes movies/tv shows, and the books/tv show for the latter. Statistically speaking, represented in media or not, there's an infinite variation on universes for any of us, and I know in some cases without doubles, there are multiple fictional representations. But still, the representation's highest from people from worlds like this one, on the doubles count. That and Harry Potter seems popular, but only the books. It could be a lot easier to pop someone over from a universe not far away (or a long time ago, Star Wars people).
I guess we'll see if that continues to hold up with more doubles.
