While he'd been hired only a week ago, Mordin found that it wasn't too difficult to make friends with many of the scientists here at OsCorp. They seemed to flock to confident people, and the persona he had adopted for this undercover mission was very confident. It was a good thing that he'd spent the time playing through all three of the Mass Effect games, as well as all of the Downloadable Content. It was beneficial research for the role. The only difference was choosing not to jog everywhere he went. After all, there wasn't a galaxy to save here. He'd spent a lot of time looking into the kind of work they were doing here, though having restricted access as a new employee was a major hindrance to any kind of investigation. There were rumors of the more gifted scientists being moved to a higher security clearance area on another floor, but it seemed no one really knew much about what it meant or who decided it. For the most part, the investigation seemed to have a lot of dead ends without making more risky decisions. He'd have to consider that, perhaps discuss it with his team and get their opinions. In the meantime, though, Mordin found he needed to stop and get involved with a conversation. He had been listening to both of them argue for a few moments, while he just stood there listening. These two had been arguing about something completely unrelated to work, but the fact that they were arguing at all was what had caused Mordin to stop. "I'm telling you, no matter what I do, she always finds something to gripe at me about. I mean, it sounds like she's just looking for reasons to be upset. No matter what I do, or how hard I try, it always feels like it's never good enough. I don't know why I even still try," argued the first man, striking his fist into his other hand as if to drive home his point. The other man, slightly older, only shook his head and tried to sound like the more patient and reasonable of the two. "It's just a matter of discipline. You can't let it get you down. There's a reason for it, I'm sure. Why not try just sitting down with her and airing out your concerns? Maybe there's a mutual compromise you can come to, or a way to both get what you want without a miscommunication." The two men continued back and forth like this for awhile. Mordin crossed his arms over his chest and leaned back on his heels for a moment. They both had solid points, even if they have different views. Their argument didn't seem to be getting anywhere, but after some contemplation, Mordin decided he needed to side with the older gentleman - and remember to change up how he spoke. Speaking like someone else was always a challenge, but a good tool for undercover work. He'd been practicing in a mirror every night to get the cadence and sound right. "You should spend some time to find out what she wants. She very likely has some very reasonable wants and needs, if you'll just show you're willing to listen and adapt. That could lead to her doing the same for you. From there, I think you'd have a much happier relationship with better rewards for each of you. Remember, a happy home is a home with communication," interjected Mordin, inwardly noting each syllable and how it could be improved the next time he spoke. Commander Shepard's manner of speech would take a lot more training. Both men turned to look at him and eventually nodded. They seemed a little confused at first, but Mordin attributed that to someone else joining their conversation. "I should go," he added, before returning to his workspace. Another job well done for Human Scientist Jason Sheppard. |
