Severus arched an eyebrow. "It likely is. Chocolate works equally as well as a treatment for Muggles who are exposed to a Dementor's presence. They can't see them but they can feel the effects."
He paused at Wesley's question and eyed the man for a long moment. He didn't seem anything more than simply interested and certainly not like he was looking to judge or condemn. "Nothing so clear-cut in my world. A combination of the intended effects of the spell and what it takes to cast it is the most common method of judging," he said then continued rather dryly, "Though it's not an exact science. You could take a large proportion of the spells the students are taught and use them to injure or kill so the question of where you draw the line is..." He snorted derisively. "... one most people don't care to think about because there is no clear-cut right answer, only shades of grey."
He paused again then made a small gesture with one hand. "Except perhaps the Cruciatus. I could mount an argument for both the Killing Curse and the Imperius being able to be used for beneficial purposes but we'd all have been better off if the person who invented the Cruciatus had burned their notes and obliviated themselves." His voice was very flat as he said that. He'd had enough experience with that curse - on both sides - to speak with a great deal of authority.
"I've seen him around the network and we may have spoken briefly," he said with a small frown. "Was he the one hosting a gathering of... magical individuals? I planned on attending but had to work, if I recall." He gave another slightly dismissive flick of his fingers then tore some of the bread off and ate it. "Would SHIELD be willing to call us in? They take secretive to levels even I find somewhat ridiculous and certainly I have not heard of them taking any steps to safeguard themselves against anyone... unpleasant coming through from my world, for example. I was a heartbeat away from apparating the moment I arrived and someone like the Dark Lord? He wouldn't hesitate even for as long as I did. And once someone like him is loose, catching him again would be... extremely difficult."
