I work to protect all people, regardless of who they are. I see it as no more my responsibility to protect women than men. Many women are made addicted to drugs to force them to remain in prostitution. From the reading I have done and my own interactions, many prostitutes do not wish to work in that job and have wanted to leave at some point, but they had no economic options and social supports. Prostitution, as I have seen it in New York City, does harm society because of its involvement with drugs and other illegal activities and because it so often harms the very people taking part in it - those most at risk - who are placed there often by those who would use them and abandoned when they are no longer useful.
I do not believe you have proven this law does more harm than good, but I do welcome you to use the democratic processes in this country to seek to do what you see as doing good. I cannot choose to ignore the law because I am sworn to uphold it.
