Re: Eärendil | Torunn
It is a long story, but aye, I shall tell it.
Long ago, in the land of Valinor, the elves lived in the light of the Two Trees, one silver and one gold. It was a holy light, hallowed by the Valar, and beloved by all of those who saw it. Maedhros' father, Fëanor, the greatest craftsman the Ñoldor have ever known, was able to capture this precious light in three jewels, the Silmarils.
But Melkor, the Morgoth, coveted these jewels and stole them, slaying Fëanor's father, the High King Finwë in the process. He also had the Trees destroyed, so the only place that the holy light existed was in these three jewels, now on Morgoth's dark crown.
Wroth at the murder of his father, and the theft of the most precious work of his hands, Fëanor and his sons swore a terrible oath - to pursue to the ends of the world any who keep a Silmaril. They swore by Ilúvatar himself, and that everlasting darkness take them if they broke the oath; making it nigh on unbreakable, even were they forgiven by the Valar and released.
For years and many deaths they followed their oath, driving their people into destruction, unable to find peace until they gained them.
