there were moments when it seemed okay
Restlessness had never plagued Oliver quite like it did tonight. Even at a young age, he’d been the self-contained type, content to be on his own either while reading or playing or doing anything, really. Probably something to do with his loner parents. While living with Julia had been a trial, it hadn’t crushed him like it might have a more extroverted social person. (Or not in the same obvious way. Whatever the case was, Oliver wouldn’t be dwelling on that.) So really he could only conclude that this nervous energy had more to do with his newfound physical conditions than anything else. Living as a human, not prowling the estate at all hours left him with excess pent-up energy in a way he hadn’t realized it could or would.
The answer? Shift into a jaguar and run around the estate. Great option, right?
It was cold. Tonight would eventually get below freezing, if he read the weather report correctly. The temperature wasn’t dropping precipitously though, so his current obsession was finding a stream or pond he could splash around in. Just for a few minutes. He didn’t even know if there was one, but on a plot of land this big? It seemed probable.
Sniffing at the air, he thought he smelled something - someone - else. Undoubtedly someone from the Division, but they were either too far away or too unfamiliar to place. (No intruders, there weren’t intruders here, he had to remind himself again and again. Force of habit had turned everyone into an intruder somehow. Reversing that was proving difficult.) Well, if they got closer, he would figure it out then.
