WHO: Pansy Parkinson and Lily Potter
WHERE: Out on the streets
WHEN: After Pansy’s release
WHAT: Pansy meets the mother of her nemesis
RATING: PG
STATUS: completed
Pansy probably could have - and should have - been more upset about being pulled into yet another dreadful Muggle town, where she was surrounded by Gryffindors and assorted members of the Potter fan club, but she'd suffered so many indignities by now she could scarcely be bothered. She just needed a drink and perhaps a cigarette, and she could truckle along. And if those drinks happened to be with Potter’s frighteningly overenthusiastic mother...well, Pansy didn't even mind. At the very least, it would be worth it for the look on Potter’s face to find out she was drinking buddies with his dear mum. She just hoped Potter’s dear mum would come soon. It was hot, and she could only layer on so many cooling spells. Because she knew that where Pansy Parkinson was waiting for her was out of the way of prying local Muggle eyes, Lily felt comfortable enough to apparate there, and she appeared with a crack several feet away from the young woman and shook herself out then smiled in greeting. "Pansy?" she asked, pushing her hair out of her eyes. She should have pulled it back off her face. She stuck out a hand. "Hullo, I'm Lily. How are you doing?" Oh yes, frighteningly overenthusiastic. Well, when in the Muggle world… Pansy took the outstretched hand and gave it a limp shake. Obviously, no one had taught her how to do a real handshake. “Pansy. And I’m doing well for having been stuck in quarantine in the middle of nowhere, I suppose.” She lifted her hand to shade her eyes from the sun. “Although a drink would help considerably.” Lily kept up her smile and motioned for them to start walking. "Yes, quarantine is awful. I thought I would go crazy in there. But at least they have it here, and someone gets you acclimated. We were on a space cruise for a while and there, new people were just dumped right into things without any information at all!" The entire situation was really something out of a fantasy novel, especially the part where they were in space, but since it had been Lily's reality for quite a while now, it didn't even occur to her anymore how out of the realm of normalcy that might come across to anyone else, especially someone just arriving. “I beg your pardon, did you say space cruise?” Pansy stared at the redhead for a moment, trying to judge her sincerity. You never knew with Gryffindors. She'd been victim to the Weasleys’ “pranks” enough to know better than to simply trust them. Lily nodded. "Yes, it was like something out of a novel or a film. We were on this spaceship, called the Prettiest Star, for over a month before we all were brought back here. I never thought I'd be able to go into space before, you know?" And still Pansy just stared at her. “You’re not joking, are you? If you are, congratulations. You’ve got a fabulous deadpan face.” It was easier to believe that than to believe a group of them had gone up into space. There was magic, and then there was the impossible. Lily shrugged. "I'm not joking. All of this has been quite unbelievable, really." She smiled at the other woman. "I know it's a lot to take in but it's not so bad once you get used to it. And you're not alone here either. There are many of us from our - world, I suppose one could say." Pansy let out an unladylike snort. “There may be many of us from our world, but I really am quite alone.” She tried to say it with a jaded defiance, the sort that was expected from a girl whose family had supported the Dark Lord, but some of her sadness seeped through. Pansy was a social creature; she wasn’t used to being on her own, away from friends. She might be a survivor, but it didn’t mean she was happy. She moved right along before Lily could get the idea to mock her for it - or, worse, feel sorry for her. “What sort of things do wizards do here for money?” "I tend to think that it's best to stick with others from our own world, and I don't know you at all so no preconceived notions or anything, so I hope you won't think you have to be alone." She smiled warmly at Pansy. The surname Parkinson was familiar to Lily but she chose not to think too much on it. Lily shrugged. "Oh, there are a lot of things that you can do. What were you doing before coming here?" “I worked at a wine store,” Pansy said with a shrug. “Slowly improving their appalling collection. I'm quite annoyed at being pulled away, actually. I was finally turning things around. Now…” She slid her hands into the pockets of her trousers. “Shall we apparate there? I don't fancy walking in this heat.” "I'm sure there's something similar you could find here," she said, her mind already racing to what was around town that might use someone with good taste in wine like Pansy's. Lily shook her head. "We can apparate to my flat, if you'd like, then it's a short walk. We can't apparate right there, of course, since there are Muggles around." Truthfully, Lily wasn't entirely sure where they were with all of that - it had certainly been easier in space - but she preferred not to take chances. "I can side-along you there, and it'll be less time in the heat." “Oh yes, mustn't alarm the Muggles, those poor fragile lambs.” Pansy let out a long-suffering sigh. She wasn't in a position to be too demanding, though. Not yet. So she offered her arm. “Yes, go on and side-along me. I'd rather not get splinched going to an unfamiliar flat.” Lily raised an eyebrow but chose to hold her tongue rather than begin an argument with the witch she was trying to convince had a place among the rest of them. Though on one hand, Pansy wouldn't find a place with them if she was going to be disagreeable about things like muggles. "Great," she said, a bit more chipper than she would have if Pansy hadn't just insulted Muggles like she had. She held out her arm for her. And so off they went. |
