So, way way back in the day before I met Steve I'd been on mission building houses in Brazil when the Red Skull got his hands on a cosmic cube. I guess it wasn't fully charged or he'd have just snapped his fingers and decided that Captain America was dead and Nazis ruled the world, but it was still powerful enough that he figured he could at least get himself a sleeper agent. So he finangled things for me and Steve to meet and have to fight off a bunch of his minions together. We end up as partners, start working with SHIELD sometimes, and a few years later we run into the Skull again. We had the advantage and he needed to create some kind of distraction to get away. So he triggered something in my head and suddenly all I wanted to do was kill Steve. Nearly did it, too. But they managed to get me back into SHIELD and wipe out the programming.

Only thing is, the Skull is petty as fuck. Whether I managed to kill Steve or not, he hated everything about me that made me any use for the whole plan in the first place. So when he triggered the kill command he also activated a whole new set of memories where I went off the rails pretty early on, got involved with gangs, ended up as this thug who was in South America for a drug deal. Even managed to twist enough of reality so when SHIELD investigated they found evidence of me having been in LA at the same time I was in college in New York. Never managed to get rid of the memories, but at least Snap was just this little whisper at the back of my mind that was easy to tune out.

Fast forward to a few years back during my second go on the Avengers. Wanda was in the middle of a breakdown and in my world her powers are different. Reality warping shit. It was a pretty bad time, she didn't have a clue she was doing anything but Avengers kept getting attacked by all kinds of monsters, Steve was having hallucinations, Tony was going from stone sober to drunk as hell in half a second even though he wasn't drinking. People died, we ended up having to disband the whole team. Then me and Steve got pulled into this job for Naval Intelligence. They had a rogue asset needed bringing in. They'd been trying to replicate the super soldier program and hit the same problem every other attempt's had - the subject goes fucking nuts. The plan was for me to appear to go rogue so he'd come after me, so when I started acting strange people figured it was just part of the act. It'd been a long time since anyone had even heard the name Snap Wilson, SHIELD had had a fair bit of turnover, and Steve was pretty distracted trying to figure out what was even real. And damn, Snap does not work slow. It took maybe a week or two for people to catch on and by then I'd broken two people out of military prisons (including the guy we were after), shot an admiral (wearing a vest, but still), stolen a ridiculous amount of money from a powerful cartel, blackmailed a senator, basically stole some guy's house through intimidation so I could hide out there, nearly got Steve killed when that guy came after me, and was wanted for treason because the Navy walked back on protecting me for anything I did as part of the op. I ended up skipping the country while SHIELD tried to clean up after Wanda and Tony and Snap. Stayed away until the Winter Soldier popped up, actually. Still can't go back to Cuba and even though that admiral did end up in the shit for everything he was doing I'm pretty sure the Navy aren't exactly my biggest fans either.

That wasn't even the only time Wanda triggered Snap, just the only time I was the only one whose actual personality got changed up. The other time… the aftermath was different because so many people were affected that no one really held a grudge over what anyone did, but it sure as hell didn't feel much different. Just more bullshit I get to deal with because Nazis can't stand the idea of a black guy who isn't a criminal, and I feel like I can't even resent it that much because the Skull's stupid sleeper agent plan is the only reason I even met Steve.

This is the kind of shit that makes me wonder what the hell is going to happen to my world. You know this is the stuff of nightmares, right? Not being yourself, not in control. Loss of control is a very powerful thing, and it makes people stupid as hell sometimes.

So you're trying to tell me that Snap Wilson came back and started what? In El Paso? Drug running? Stealing from cartels?

	And personalised just for me. No matter what I do the Skull still gets to reduce me to some stereotype. No idea. El Paso doesn't actually have much crime, but it'd be pretty easy to fly over the border. Could be cartels, could be militias. No reports of anyone turning up dead or seriously injured, but safe to say I'm not going back there anytime soon. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)
