RP Log; Kylo Ren & Leia Organa & Millie
Kylo shrugged his hood off of his shoulders, tossing it on the chair next to him and laid down on the floor next to Millicent. She was sunning, in the living room for once instead of getting orange fur once again on his cloak, and so far as Kylo knew he was the only one in the house, which was pretty much precisely how he liked to have it. His hand reached out and patted Millicent's head lightly, and he let a sigh out as the warmth of the sun soaked into his black clothes and made him half consider the idea of stripping off a little further. He wasn't lacking in observational powers and he realized that while his usual costume might have fit in well enough on the spaceship, it didn't seem to fit in here at all. But he wasn't entirely certain how to shift that without feeling even more out of place than he did with the head-to-toe black. He preferred it to some of the short trousers and ridiculous shirts he'd seen around town. And if people stared, then they stared, but right now it was warm and he could almost imagine what the sun would feel like on his arms and back and he almost wanted to try it. Millicent moved, stretching languorously and reaching out a paw towards him. "You're always so content," he muttered at her, but there was fondness in it. She might be persistent and not give up, but unlike Hux, she seemed to be quite content in his company and she had taken to Tumbleweed, and its sun, as if she had been meant to live there and who knew - perhaps she had. Kylo reached a finger out to tap her paw. She ignored it initially, and it wasn't until he had tapped it a fourth time that she tilted her ears and shifted her head to regard him judgmentally. "What?" He raised an eyebrow at her, at the same time noting her lack of true annoyance in the Force. If anything it seemed as if the judgment was a part of the game. He could play that. "You're too content," he smirked. "All this sunshine and freedom." She tilted her ears and leaned her chin back down on her paws and closed her eyes. Kylo grinned, stroking her back for a moment, before reaching a finger around to tap her paw again. Leia came in from the front door quietly, juggling her keys and a paper bag filled with groceries. She stopped in the doorway, almost jerkily, when she spotted Kylo on the floor with his cat, divested of his cloak. She held the bag of groceries closer to her chest. Usually he was so sullen and quiet that this was nice to see him having a conversation with the cat, more relaxed than usual. She knew that her presence, and Han’s presence, made him uncomfortable most of the time, and she was working to change that. At least, she hoped she could change it. “I bought some treats for Millicent,” she said quietly, reaching behind her with her foot to close the door. “And something for you as well,” she added after a moment. She crossed the room to set the groceries on the countertop, reaching up on her tiptoes to begin unpacking it. Kylo reacted fairly quickly, his shoulders tensing a little as he realized that he hadn't even sensed Leia come in. He'd been so focused on the creature in front of him, and it was poor form. Not that he expected his mother or his father to seriously try to attack him - although if his father found out would he be frustrated enough to give it a try? - but still, it was him falling out of practice of staying alert in the Force. He pushed himself up to a sitting position, staying beside Millicent on the floor as he watched his other warily. "You didn't have to do that," he pushed back, even though he was fairly certain Millicent had heard and understood treats, especially in conjunction with her name, and her ears twitched backwards at his words. He glared at her, thinking rather aggressively 'well, she didn't. I could buy you treats.' Although he hadn't really figured out a job. Perhaps he should do that. It would give him something to do except be stick in this house with his parents all the time, or at Eliot's place where he strongly hoped he would not wear out his welcome. “I wanted to,” Leia said simply. She found it difficult to believe that he could be surprised that she might do something nice for the sake of doing something nice and it made her wonder again what sort of relationship he really had with his mother, how different she was. “You like chocolate, yes?” she wondered. She set a chocolate bar out on the counter, some kind of Icelandic dark chocolate that she had sampled at the market and really enjoyed. The entire point of everything was that he'd been alone with Millicent and he hadn't been required to put on any of his masks, but that seemed to be ruined and short of retreating (again) to his room, Kylo didn't know how to re-establish that particular equilibrium. With a sigh that was oddly muted under the circumstances, he pulled himself to his feet, and eyed the chocolate. "Does anyone not like chocolate?" He asked in return, neither admitting that it looked good or that there was an odd twist of hope that rose up at the fact that she'd brought it to him. She didn't know, of course. If she knew what he'd done, she would never do this for him. That thought brought a distant look to his eyes. Leia smiled over at him and shrugged. “I’m sure someone, somewhere must. And this chocolate isn’t anything like what I’m used to from home, but it’s close enough. The more bitter the better, in my opinion.” She glanced down at the chocolate and then over at him before returning to unpacking her shopping bag. A bag of treats joined the chocolate bar on the counter before she began putting things away, her back to Kylo but her senses focused back on him, waiting for him to take the chocolate bar and the treats for his cat. It was ridiculous to hold out on picking them up and some part of him knew that, but he still did, even as he could feel Millicent's ears pricking up towards him as if just waiting for the rustle of the treats to get up and come over to him. In the end it was her interest that pushed his hand forward to pick up the treats, leaving the chocolate for right now. Sure enough, as he pulled open the bag, she hopped to her feet and casually came around the end of the sofa, sitting down to stare at him. He raised an eyebrow at her, she twitched her ears back, and he couldn't help a smirk at the unspoken challenge. He dug out one of the treats and balanced it for a moment on his finger. If Millicent could have rolled her eyes, she almost certainly did then, choosing to lick a paw disinterestedly rather than play his game. He picked the treat up with the Force, floating it over so that it was over her head, just out of reach of her mouth. She would have to try to get it with her paw to catch it. Holding it in mid-air, he glanced over to his mom. "Thanks," he offered begrudgingly. Leia glanced over her shoulder and smiled as she watched him tease the cat. It made him seem - less intimidating. No, intimidating wasn’t the right word, because that wasn’t how she felt about Kylo, about Ben. He was sullen, moody, and he seemed to take great pains to show himself that way when around her and around others. And yet with his cat, like this, he was none of these things. “You’re welcome,” she said quietly. She leaned her forearms on the counter and tipped her head to the side. “Are you going to tease her every time you offer her a treat?” she wondered. “Should I do that with your chocolate?” she teased suddenly, her eyes brightening as she reached out to pick up the candy bar. She said it before she even thought better of it. Kylo blinked as his attention swung back from Millicent to his mother. He wasn't really certain what he'd expected from her, but that sort of teasing wasn't it. Millicent batted the treat and Kylo let it drop, knowing that she'd pick it up off the floor. An uncertain lopsided smile crossed his face as he was uncertain if he should smile or just back away quickly, but he shook his head and backed off on the smile almost as quickly as it had appeared. "I'm not a cat," he muttered, pushing himself up and off of the counter, caught between the desire to just leave her the chocolate bar and walk away and the urge to reach out in the Force and snatch it. For the moment he did neither, instead zipping the treat bag up and putting it on the counter. Leia almost pointed out the smile that she caught slide across his face for only a moment. But she held back. She always seemed to be holding back when it came to him, and she didn’t like it. It was, she believed however, a necessity if their relationship was going to get anywhere. “No,” she said, amused. “You’re not a cat.” As though that was the only response she could have to that comment. Really, though, what else could she say? And like that, she suspected the moment was gone, whatever kind of moment they’d even just shared. She set the chocolate bar back down and turned to open the refrigerator to put the milk and a six pack of some kind of beer inside. When she turned around both Kylo and the chocolate bar were gone. The only sign they'd been there was Millicent's tail disappearing around the corner. |
