It's whatever. Do you want me to adjust the wards?

Admittedly, there wasn't much to change. But I remember it quite clearly, it being only four days ago. I would have noticed.

It has been much more than four days. I'm sure you've figured out roughly about how long.

In my memory, it has been four days. Plus the time since I arrived.

Here, yes, it was almost seven months.

I don't want to "make this weird", but I also don't want to make it worse, and this is uncharted territory for me. So.

If there is something I should be doing differently to make up for my absence or whatever it is that has changed, do let me know.

And perhaps most especially, that I care about not making it worse.

I wonder if my position at the library is still available.

I would think it worth asking about. Perhaps even if it was taken, someone else will have left. If not, I suspect we could find you a place at the shop for a bit.

I really enjoyed my job there. It was very quiet and I found a lot of interesting books by reshelving them.

How is the coffee shop going?

I could imagine that. You would reshelve things that you might not normally browse for and all that. The coffee shop isn't very quiet, and we don't have books so much, but if you find yourself stuck, we lost some people before the cruise.

It's going well though. I enjoy the activity of it.

I'm not sure selling (or making?) coffee would be my strong suit, but if you're in need of help and want to teach me, I'm around to help.

Good, I'm glad you've found something you enjoy.

It's an option, but I'm hoping you'll have a place at the library for you.

It's nice to have something, even if not strictly necessary. It's still nice.

There are many libraries. The one in Tumbleweed was just convenient, giving me a reason to come back regularly.

The availability of books is one of many improvements of this world over my own.

I suppose that's true.

Do you not have books at home? I don't think I realized that.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]voxt

It's not that there are no books. I have had access to some books about magic. And my brother some stories were told to me when I was younger.

But whether because we have ceased to value anything except magic, or because there is a lack of creativity in a power-hungry world, or because anyone who might have the ability to do so is either to focused on survival or simply cannot find a market for it, there simply aren't books being written and/or made available. Not since the doors between the worlds closed, and many things from before have been lost.

That is so strange to think about. We don't really have books. And by not really, I just mean most of ours are not in a print format - although those do exist. But the idea of books certainly exists. You must be enjoying those here.

There are some places like that in our galaxy, I suppose. Although many worlds are connected. I hope you will get to enjoy some of those things again now that you are here.
