Going to call it and say the most disappointing thing was not being able to jump on the pole with the flag.

How come that's not a thing anymore? Or is it and I just didn't find it since Bowser was being a dick?

I don't know, I don't remember it from other games. You have a point though, trying to get on top of the flag was one of the best parts.
