[Private to: Bucky Barnes (MCU AU), Tina Cohen-Chang, Mary Crawley, Caroline Forbes, Mycroft Holmes, James Potter, Lily Potter, Quentin Quire, Napoleon Solo, Lauren Strucker, Nadia Van Dyne, TJ Wagner, Arthur Weasley, Warren Worthington
Hercule Poirot - Mycroft Holmes - Belgian detective - why is it that famous detectives in fiction always conventionally stumble on to crime scenes?
Colonel Race - Warren Worthington A leader of the counter intelligence division of the British spy agency MI5, and friend of Poirot's. Came on board the ship looking for a notorious thief and ends up helping Poirot solve the murder mystery.
Linnet Doyle - Caroline Forbes (Formerly: Ridgeway) Rich heiress, very beautiful, likes things her way. Is accused by Jacqueline of stealing his fiance. Taking the Nile boat ride with Simon as part of their honeymoon Initially tries to hire Poirot to stop Jacqueline from stalking them.
Simon Doyle - James Potter Linnet's husband. Conspired with Jacqueline to get Linnet's fortune. Pretended to be woo'd away by Linnet, helped to establish an alibi for Jacqueline by pretending to be shot by her in the leg. Kills Linnet in her sleep.
Jacqueline de Bellefort - Lily Potter Simon's former fiancée, Linnet Doyle's EX-best friend. Follows Linnet and Simon everywhere, with a pistol hidden in her purse. Hot-tempered, passive aggressive AF. She and Simon concocted the plan to kill Linnet. Kills Louise Bourget and Salome Otterborne. At the end, kills Simon and then herself before they are formally arrested.
Louise Bourget - Nadia van Dyne Linnet's maid (Secondary character: Police Officer at the end) - Saw Simon enter and leave Linnet's cabin and blackmailed him to keep quiet. Hinted to Poirot in front of Simon that she saw him. When Jacqueline gave Louise the blackmail money, she stabbed her on the spot and killed her.
Andrew Pennington - Arthur Weasley Linnet's lawyer and trustee - Illegally invested some of Linnet's fortune in stocks, and was hoping to repay her before she was of age (when she could obtain her father's fortune). When Linnet got married and was legally able to fully access her inheritance, he rushed over to Egypt to try and get her to sign some paperwork that would get him off the hook. When he realized that Linnet read through every document she signed, he abandoned that plan and tried to kill her by dropping a boulder on her. The boulder nearly crushed her, but she was left unharmed albeit shaken; that was the only attempt he made to kill her.
Matthew Van Schuyler - Bucky Barnes - a very wealthy elderly American snob. Very bossy and picky. Kleptomaniac. Linnet's (fake) pearls were found in his stockings the night after Linnet was killed.
Cornelia Robson - Lauren Strucker Matthew's niece, sweet, innocent young woman, watches over her Uncle's health. Gets engaged to Dr. Bessner at the end.
Salome Otterbourne - Mary Crowley Writer of risque romantic novels - turned to alcohol when her books stopped selling - realizes the murder's identity, but is killed before she can reveal it to Poirot.
Rosalie Otterbourne - TJ Wagner Salome's daughter. Hides the fact that her mother is an alcoholic from the public. Finds her mother's drink stash and throws it overboard. (A lot of passengers said they heard a splash on the night of the murder, which becomes a red herring.) Sometimes cheerful, sometimes snappy. Jealous of Linnet. Likes Tim Allerton.
Dr. Carl Bessner - Napoleon Solo A doctor - Helps Simon with his wounded leg and asks Cornelia to marry him.
Tim Allerton - Quentin Quire Likes to gossip, lives with his mother. Is the international thief that Colonel Race came looking for. Stole Linnet's pearls on the ship and replaced them with a faux copy. Has taken a liking towards Rosalie Otterborne. Present at the shooting of Simon's leg, and helps escort Jackie to her cabin before fetching Dr. Bessner to help Simon.
Ship Captain/Police Officer - Tina Cohen-Chang

Our first read-through will be 7:00 pm, Friday, September 28th, at the Community Theater. Rehearsal schedules will be handed out, then.
I'll be contacting the crew, shortly.
I've asked Tina to play the role of Ship Captain / Police officer, but I really need her behind the scenes, so if you know of somebody who would like a small role in the play, with only a couple of speaking lines, please let me know. Thank you.
I'm aware that a lot of people aren't familiar with this story. You can watch a very good version on YouTube. The stage version doesn't have as many characters, with roles being somewhat condensed, and is set exclusively on board the ship. The role of the wealthy but snobbish American lady has been genderswapped for our production.
I found out that Kenneth Branaugh will be directing his own film version of this story on the heels of his Murder on the Orient Express, so that's cool.
If you don't want to watch the video, the synopsis is as follows: There is a murder on a luxury cruise in Egypt; naturally, almost everyone on board had reasons to want the victim dead.
The heiress Linnet Ridgeway Doyle boards the cruise steamer Karnak with her new husband Simon. They are honeymooning in Egypt, but they realize they are being stalked by Linnet’s friend Jacqueline, who was formerly engaged to Simon before Jacqueline 'stole him away from her' .
Several other people on the Karnak also have grudges against Linnet. After the failure of an initial attempt on her life during a day tour, Linnet is found dead in her stateroom. The murder weapon resembles a gun Jacqueline used to attack Simon the night before.
Also on board the Karnak is Belgian detective Hercule Poirot, the hero of many Christie novels who is famed for his ability to deduce the identity of a killer by observing tiny details. Poirot is soon joined by Col. Race, an old friend seeking a criminal he believes to be traveling aboard the Karnak. Race helps the detective and provides Poirot a reason to explain his methods.
Although Jacqueline seems the prime suspect, she has a steal tight alibi, forcing Poirot to focus on the other passengers. Novelist Salome Otterbourne is battling a libel lawsuit Linnet filed against her... she is traveling with her devoted daughter, Rosalie. Linnet’s lawyer, Andrew Pennington, who was embezzling from her, conveniently joined the cruise just before it set sail. American socialite Matthew Van Schuyler is traveling on the Karnak with his cousin, Cornelia - the kleptomaniac Matthew has his eye on Linnet’s jewels. Austrian doctor Ludwig Bessner had bitterly debated politics and medicine with Linnet, and even Linnet’s maid, Louise Bourget, had reason to resent her employer.
Louise discovers the killer’s identity but is murdered when she attempts blackmail. Salome is then murdered when she also realizes she knows who the murderer is. Naturally, Poirot pieces together the clues and solves the case.
If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know and they will be addressed.
Thank you very much, and see you tomorrow!
As far as crew goes, I have down Pixie for stage manager and James Rogers to help move set pieces as needed. A number of the cast said they'd help out with the production, let's see which ones would be interested in helping with costumes and props in addition to acting. Janet Van Dyne is a fashion designer, I'm going to ask her to help with costumes. In any case, I've asked Mary Crawley to help us oversee designs, since she actually comes from the era which the play is set.
To make things easier, I'm thinking of asking Janet to manifest the set instead of building it. I really like the look of this one because we can utilize the different levels in our blocking. I also like the idea of having a magical background to mimic the ocean waves moving and the change of sky for when it's day or night to make it realistic as possible.
It will be also great if we can use magic to help age some of the cast, instead of relying on makeup.
Am I missing anything?
