There have been instances where the blind have been able to keen their other senses, for example I heard of a person who came up with his own version of echo-location by making clicking noises and listening for the sound to echo back like a bat or a radar. But not really to the extend that I experience.

Sounds like a good plan to me. I'd suggest you take those typing classes, though. In this world, typing is a skill that's practical on many levels. There ought to be classes online, you might even find them for free.
