There are a couple of things here, the first - because I get the desire to not hide: But what is hiding? If you weren't going out because you were afraid of him, then that would be hiding. And sometimes, if I can speak frankly, that's smart. It doesn't make you more courageous to run into a situation you can't win, just to prove something to yourself or everyone around you. It just makes you lucky as heck if you make it out of that situation alive and with the ability to learn from your mistake.
Secondarily, don't make the mistake of thinking abilities are a shield that'll keep everyone around you safe. I've got abilities, and yet I've multiple scars from run-ins with other people with abilities. We lost people on the cruise who had abilities. People with abilities can still lose in a fight. I don't know what types of abilities this guy has, and frankly I don't care to find out, because he's not worth that time.
But if you go out, taunting him then, because I care about you, I'm obligated to find out. And if he is dangerous even if I, or Eliot, or Ronan might have abilities - you're being selfish to expect that we'll step in and take care of you and that everything will be fine. What happens if it isn't fine? If you go out, doing something, just to prove that you can, and your father steps in to protect you and something happens to him? You're the one who has to live with that and I will tell you from experience that living with other people's deaths on your conscience isn't something you want to do.
We care about you, and not just your physical well being, it's your mental well-being too. We want to help you to be able to maneuver in this world with ease. And part of that is knowing when to step up and fight for something you believe in, and when the possible risk is not worth your time.
