So. What is this whole Saint Patrick's Day deal? Only the irish can celebrate it? How do you know if you're irish or not?

Everyone's Irish on St. Patrick's Day. That's the unspoken rule. It's mainly just an excuse to get shitfaced.

Oh okay, thought it was some serious type shit.

Not really. Technically, it started off as a Catholic feast day for St. Patrick, but over the years, it's just turned into a giant bar crawl. Where I grew up, the whole city got pretty nuts that time.

Catholic feast? All this shit is going over my head. We didn't have any of this shit on the Ark. It's a space station. I'm 100 years into your future, probably. The only big thing was had was Unity Day but I was too young to drink back then.

Yeah. Most of our holidays started off as religious. Or pagan, but Christianity stole them. They do that a lot.

A hundred years from the future in space, huh? Shit. Guess we did ruin the planet.

I'm Faith, by the way.

Are pagans like the grounders and we're like the christians?

It was an AI by the name of ALIE. She wears a dress dress. You know, just in case.

Faith? That's a name? Not saying it's bad or anything. Just ironic...for me at least. Name's Murphy.

I have no idea what you're talking about, but kinda, yeah. Christians did a lot of pretty messed up shit over the years. But I'm not a history teacher, so I wouldn't be able to tell you all of that.

So, like an evil robot Terminator type situation? Only sexier?

Yup. That's my name. Blame my mother. Murphy's not bad, though I'm guessing it's your last name. Not a common first name, usually.

Ireland is across the sea from where Tumbleweed was. You have to be from there.

No, that's just how I know what Ireland is.

Panem was the US, where we are in Tumbleweed. I was from the north.

And you probably talk to your family. Like find out who your parents' parents are. And where they came from.

Yeah, like mine.

And you wouldn't be even able to do that here, since we're jerked from our worlds. So you'll never know if you're Irish.

Yeah, yeah. I live, etc, etc. It's like your family history. When you draw it out in elementary school, looks... kinda tree-like.

Plenty of people celebrate St. Patrick's day who aren't Irish. But I think the personal meaning for it is different.

As for finding out if you're Irish, you could get your DNA tested.

DNA test? I don't really want doctors touching me if I don't need them to.

Most tests these days don't involve doctors. They send you a kit, you swab the inside of your mouth or spit in a tube, then send it back to them and they send you the results.
