A GIANT THING MADE OF FLAMES ATTACKED ME AND STEVEN IN THOSE MINES. IT WAS HUGE AND SMELLED LIKE FART SULFUR OR BURNING OR WHATEVER! IT CHASED US ALL THE WAY OUT OF THE MOUNTAIN BUT THEN STOPPED.

Sounds like either a dragon or a Balrog. Those are both fiery creatures native to this land that tend to be found in the mountains.
