I've obviously missed a very important phenomenon in my cultural studies - and I better get started on catching up. These books are massive.

Yeah, you should. Long, but they're good reads.

The language is beautiful. I often find myself stopping to reread a sentence for sheer enjoyment of its structure - which, of course, doesn't help in my attempt to finish the series before we dock.

He's got a way with words. More of a Jack London guy myself, but Tolkien knew what was up.

If you don't finish in time, I can give you a spoiler free tour of the sights anyway.

Was London the one who valued brevity, or am I thinking of another American author?

I'd appreciate the tour regardless. Are you a fan?

Could be thinking of Hemingway, King of the simple sentence.

Little bit. Not about to go cosplaying it, but I enjoyed the books.

It might be wise to dress like locals when we arrive.

And yes, that would be Hemingway. I prefer more poetic prose myself, though I can appreciate his craft.

Yeah, it might help. Not sure I'm gonna bother unless the brochure said we should.

Who's your poison? Keats?

I quite enjoy Rossetti. I have yet to find anyone who could match her lyricism.

It's her ruminations on death and the impact on those left behind that I admire.

Can't say I ever appreciated that perspective. Must be because I can't die.

So, sure. I have. I'm over a hundred. It was bound to happen eventually.

And have you read Miss Rossetti's musings on death and loss? I would be interested to hear if you relate to her sentiments, given your unusual situation.

Can't say that I do. When I was reading her poetry, I wasn't relating to much.

You had better not be laughing at me. Plus, fictional cute guys are way safer than the ones in real life who blow up your moon pool and ruin everything just for money. Lewis is spared from this generalization because he's never blown up my moon pool or tried to ruin my life.

I'm trying to figure out how to take this. Am I also excluded, as I have also never blown up your moon pool or tried to ruin your life, or am I simply not considered a real life cute guy?
