One unpleasant thing Julia had learned about herself and nightmares was that when her adrenaline was really going, it made it harder to feel the alcohol. Her body just assumed she needed to stay sober in case she need to run. Or fight. Julia nodded, quiet but grateful for the refill.
“The bunnies might not work and I might not be able to control when I get home, but...”
Julia wasn’t sure where she was going with that thought. She wasn’t really sure how much she should really share with a stranger but he seemed nice enough. Julia was tired of feeling afraid. It wasn’t like she couldn’t defend herself, though she didn’t have quite the advantage she did back home as the only magic user in a world without magic.
“There’s time travel involved here or something? I mean, I’ve time travelled, but not like this.” She took another large swallow from her glass. “Things are kinda fucked up where I’m from. Maybe I can figure out a way to makes things less fucked.”
After a pause she asked, “I don’t suppose there’s anywhere to get a pack of cigarettes on this boat?”
