Leia had spent some time looking into the holiday traditions from this world, which seemed to be the one where the majority of the displaced came from, though from alternate realities. While she didn't hold to the religious faith of any of them, she appreciated the focus on family and loved ones, and she was glad for her opportunity to spend it with those around her, but in particular her son. With a bag of carefully wrapped gifts in hand, Leia got to Anakin's and knocked lightly on the door. She was, perhaps, a little early - or at least she was earlier than she had told Luke to come - hoping that she could spend some time with Anakin herself. She wore her new cloak, one - the one that showed up for her mysteriously that morning and had caused her to unexpectedly cry - she hadn't seen anything made out of this Alderaaninan fabric since before the disaster - to keep herself warm. It was nearly identical to one her mother had often worn, one that Leia loved, with its deep purples and silver threads woven throughout. When Anakin answered the door, Leia smiled and pulled him into a tight hug. "How has your day been so far?" she asked him, giving his cheek a tender touch and a warm kiss. She was eager to talk with her son about his plans, and hers, for the future. Anakin returned the hug and welcomed his mom into the pool house that did manage to have a strong significance to their Eastport apartment on Coruscant. "Hey, Happy Christmas," he grinned at her. It was likely Nico's fault, along with the multiple years that he had been on Earth or some variant of it, that had allowed the holidays to settle into Anakin's yearly space. They weren't the same holidays as at home and they didn't have the same traditions, but there were pieces that sometimes felt similar, and at any rate, he enjoyed learning the new traditions, and he was really glad that even if he had no other family here this year, he had his Mom and of course that he had Nico. "It's been good," he grinned. "Nico and I had presents this morning." He eyed the cloak that she was wearing and tilted his head. "That's new, so I'm guessing you did too." "Happy Christmas," she echoed, reaching up to untie the cloak and shrug it from her shoulders. She folded it carefully over the back of a chair while she held out the bag, letting him know there were a few things in there for Nico as well. "It is," Leia said, sliding her hand along the edge of the cloak. "It's similar to one my mother used to wear, and the fabric - well, it's nothing that I ever thought I'd touch again, honestly." Anakin’s eyes widened slightly, the implication immediate. “It’s Alderaanian?” He asked, his hand coming up to reach out to it, although caught himself before he actually touched it. “May I? It’s gorgeous. Grandmother used to wear one like this?” He’d seen holos of Queen Breha of Alderaan obviously, and images since coming here as well, but this was something in front of him that he could touch. She nodded. "Yes. I couldn't quite believe it when I opened the box. I don't really even know how it's possible. It's from an animal native to Alderaan, hardly ever used in the making of fabric even when I was young because of the difficulty of getting it. But I - of course you can." Leia smiled at him. "Please. She had one in a shade of blue I really loved, yes. A gift from father on their 25th wedding anniversary." Anakin reached out and let his fingers slide over the material. It was a gorgeous feel and like nothing he'd really felt before. He smiled as he felt it. "This is positively beautiful. I can see why you would have loved it." He had to confess that the hadn't expected the Santa thing to work out exactly, but it had for him and it looked like for his mom too. "Did you get anything else? "It's probably a little too warm for the weather here, but I'll wear it anyway." She smiled at him. "I - well, I was fanciful and asked for your father back even though I knew that wasn't something that could easily be granted. I was a little hopeful though." Leia shrugged. "I - well, I received some kyber crystals as well. I thought I might see if I can build my own lightsaber." Anakin gave her a sympathetic look. He'd contemplated asking for Jaina and Jacen, but he had chosen against it feeling like it was likely too outrageous to happen. Admittedly he'd thought the same thing about the X-wing, but a thing seemed easier to have happen than people might and so he had tried. His eyes widened slightly at the announcement of a kyber crystal. "Really? Wow, mom that's amazing. And I bet you could." Come to it, he could help her, but Uncle Luke was also there, and their grandfather - all of them were there and could be able to give her guidance through the process. "That's kind of a fantastic thing to arrive." Anakin had asked for a random assortment of things ultimately, the X-wing, which had become Legos, and the trunk from home, and then the trip for two to italy, which it seemed with Nico having asked for the same thing had become a trip for four - but that wasn't something he was going to get into just yet. Instead he crossed the room and pulled open his trunk and pulled out one of the holoimages within. "I got stuff from home," he handed it over to his mom, the image one of the family when he was quite a bit younger, and Jaina and Jacen had been at the Academy and he'd wanted to be, but hadn't been yet. They were all in it, even Threepio who managed to look both worried and offended at his inclusion in the family. "That's Jaina and Jacen and I when we were younger." Leia didn't really know what she was going to be able to do with the kyber crystal, if she had everything here that she needed to construct her own lightsaber. But she was probably going to try. It would give her something to do, something to strive for. Her eyes widened and she let out a small gasp of surprise when he showed her the holoimage of the three of them. Her children. Her smile grew. "It's - wow. This is amazing, Anakin. Do you have any more hiding in there?" Anakin nodded. He knew that for Leia she had no memories of the three of them. She knew of all of them, of course, but she really only knew Anakin from here, and she hadn't even had his older siblings as babies yet. So when he'd realized just how many different things his trunk had in it, he'd been glad of the opportunity to show them to his mom. He left the one with her and stepped back over to the trunk that was in the middle of the living room. He reached in pulling out a datapad that had a number of other family photos on it he was pretty certain. There were ones from when he was too young to really walk, and some from when he'd taken the droid apart that one time, and some from his first days headed off to Yavin IV and the Academy with Uncle Luke. He thumbed it on and handed it over with a smile. "There's a whole bunch honestly." Leia sat and took the datapad from him carefully, smoothing her fingers against it. "This is a great holiday present for me as well, you know," she told him, "even if it's one of yours." Of course, having Han back, or even the twins, that would be a great present as well. This was near enough to that, to be able to see glimpses of this life that she would have lived if she hadn't been brought here. She flicked through, smiling as she passed by each photo, lingering on some. She reached out to squeeze his hand. "Thank you for sharing this with me, Anakin." "Of course," he grinned, even though there was a pang of missing his siblings and his dad as he said it. It was perhaps the worst thing about being here. You didn't really know when or if you'd have family, and when they did come you never knew how long they'd stick around. So even though all of his family had been here at some point throughout the time here, none of them had stayed for as long as he had. "I was thinking about making food, if you want some? Have you read much about making your own lightsaber before?" "I could eat," she said with a laugh. "What are you making? I've started cooking a little more since coming here. I'm still not very good but I can make a few things." Leia shrugged a little and handed him back the datapad. She'd probably ask to look through it again sometime, when she had some time for herself. "Oh, I have no idea how to make my own lightsaber. I don't even know if everything I need is available here, in Tumbleweed, on this planet, really." "I mean, probably waffles?" Anakin looked a little sheepish. "My list of dishes that I can do without completely messing them up is a lot larger than it used to be, but that doesn't make it large." He sat the datapad back on his trunk figuring that she could look through it later if she wanted and then motioned for her to follow him to the kitchenette. "Well, I could probably teach you, but I mean, people like Ahsoka and Grandfather and Uncle Luke and all are probably way more experienced than I am, but I have done it, I guess technically twice, and once without a kyber crystal," he shrugged. "So if you have a kyber crystal my guess is that we can figure out the stuff here. That's going to be the most difficult piece." "Waffles sounds great," Leia said as she followed him into the kitchenette. "I should have thought to brought some hot caf or cocoa, I'm sorry," she said. She leaned against the counter and smiled at him. "I think I'd like you to show me, rather than one of the others," she admitted after a moment. It wasn't as though she didn't believe the others could help - of course they could. But she wasn't 100% on board with Anakin, and she barely knew Ahsoka, and, well, Luke would probably be a very good choice as well. "Maybe you and Luke together," she said smiling. "It's not a problem," Anakin grinned. "You can just help me mix up waffles." And there was a swell of pride and warmth that his mom even wanted him to help with her building the lightsaber. Anakin knew he wasn't probably as experienced as his Uncle - although maybe when he was this young Anakin wasn't so inexperienced in comparison - but the fact that his mom trusted him to help her couldn't help but bring a smile to his face. "I think that's a plan." |
