Last Christmas — at least the last Christmas she had — was spent with Barry and his family and friends, and despite feeling a little out of place it was nice. It was nice NOT being alone like she had been for so many years before that. The holidays were the toughest to get over, though. She had fond memories of the time with her father, ones that were often replaced by the bittersweet ones that came after his death. She wasn't sure she'd be able to make it through this year without some sort of crying session, but she had to be strong for Allison. The girl had become like a little sister to her, and like her she was here without a family. So she smiled through the pain that clenched at her heart as she wandered about the tree lot in town. She was determined to find the perfect tree for her and Allison's apartment, and afterward she'd buy decorations for it, too. Unfortunately her ornaments and bobbles from home didn't make it through the portal with her to this world. But she was excited by the prospect of making new traditions with Allison, and working even harder at making new friends. Her ungloved hands touched the branches of the evergreens gently as she walked by them. Her movement was slow as if she could tell which tree was perfect just by the way it felt, and while lost in her thoughts she barely noticed the person that was right in front of her, and in a moment after she had bumped right into them. A small oof came from her, before she stumbled backward. "Oh I'm so sorry," she said quickly. Hopefully she didn't hurt the other person. |
