Good morning!

Funny to think this hotel room is bigger than the entire house where we lived when we weren't in the city when I was a child. It's even got more furniture.

Maggie says hello too.

If I'm going to play a bored socialite with more money than sense I might as well go all in.

We should meet up again so I can pick up a couple things from watching you.

I'm probably going to head to the Mirage in about an hour.

She's been very good, and made sure to let me know every time the slot machines went off when I scouted the casino last night.

Maggie is adorable. It's crazy how different life is with money verses without.

We met a friend too.

It's funny, I thought it took me a long time to get used to having money after not, but then when I left it was so easy to give it up again that I'm not sure I ever did really get used to it.

Aww the handkerchief is adorable!

It's layers I think. Being truly penniless and naked, that is horrible and I don't think you can adjust to that. Being so poor you constantly have to rely on the kindness of others to meet your basic needs is also very difficult. But if you have enough to meet your basic needs and have clothes, then it's not so bad. I could go back to that, though I would miss my lab.

We had... it varied, really. My father was good at making money and even better at losing it. We had clothes, we almost always had food. I suspect he may have had drugs. Not teachers, and not doctors so much, but that could have been paranoia as much as no money.

How did you end up studying without teachers? You're obviously well educated.

I am now. My father and the old Chief used to tell me stories. Some lipreading in English, some lipreading in Cheyenne, a lot of Plains Indian sign language. I went to school when I was eleven and had tutors and translators to get me caught up.

So your people had their own version of sign language? Was it very different from ASL?

Completely different. It was in use before white people ever came here so any commonalities between signs are most of the similarities are from people coincidentally picking the same way to represent an action or object. There's supposed to still be a concentration of speakers in Navajo and Blackfoot territory but otherwise there's not that many left.

Fascinating. It's good you can carry on it's meaning. What language do you use now when you communicate?

Usually English. ASL when people know it.

You don't have a way to practice your native tongue and signs?

Back home I occasionally go back to the rez. Chief died a couple of years ago but there are some other Cheyenne around.

It's good you can do that. I'm sorry to hear that about your Chief.
