I was thinking about maybe trying out for Kurt's play. What do you think?

Maybe a tragedy? I was thinking about using Romeo and Juliet, but I'm not sure yet. We have a book of plays at home, right?

I wouldn't go doing Romeo and Juliet for A Christmas Carol. They don't really correlate. One is Dickens and the others Shakespeare. I think you'd do better picking something from like 'Little Women', possibly Oliver!, something from Jane Eyre.

Little Women is the one about the sisters, right? And Oliver is the one with the boys who were thieves?

Yes and yes. I think either of those should work for a good monologue.
