WHO: Winry {Narrative, open to Ed and Alphonse} WHEN: After Winry is released from quarantine WHERE: Outside quarantine WHAT: Freedom, glorious freedom! Also maybe tacos WARNINGS: TBD
Winry had had quite enough of being cooped up in quarantine all by herself without much to do. Okay, so maybe she could have done any number of things that involved using the computer provided, but she was such a hands-on type of learner that being confined didn't help with that. It put her on edge. She needed room to work. She needed to be outside. She had done some reading, watched a documentary called The World's Largest Machines (which she had been enamored with and fully intended to show Ed and Al ASAP), and sketched a new automail design. Oh, and she had discovered this lovely app called Pandora and had taken to listening to it almost non-stop. It took her a while to realize that if she gave a song a 'thumbs up' that it would repeat it more often. It was so cool! This modern music was pretty impressive, and catchy. She had already learned all the lyrics to a song called Renegades and she was pretty close to having the lyrics down for a song called Believer. She wondered if it was normal for people to sing along the way she did. She had also enjoyed the food and circuit board Al had left for her.
Late during her second night in quarantine, Winry essentially passed out on the bed and didn't wake up until the next morning. She had been lying down, staring up at the ceiling and listening to music before she succumbed to her own exhaustion. She never did fall asleep the night before, nor that day. She hadn't even taken a power nap. It was easy for her to stay up all night when she had work to do, and that's exactly what she had given herself that first night: Work. She wouldn't rest until it was finished. In truth, it was a combination of needing to finish her sketch, figuring out that circuit board, and being highly anxious about this place. Knowing that her two best friends were out there waiting for her didn't help with that feeling. In fact, it made her anxiety even worse.
When Winry woke up the next morning she discovered her time in quarantine was finally up, she sent a group text to Ed and Al, telling them she was out. She packed her backpack and quickly headed out of the room. She had no desire to stay any longer, and she didn't intend to ever go back. Once she found her way out of... whatever that building was, she went to the nearest street and looked in both directions. She looked at the map she had been provided. If she hadn't already agreed to wait for Ed and Al she would have figured out her own route to Charles Xavier's mansion. She didn't like waiting. Waiting on those two was a regular occurrence, but she never liked it and she certainly never got used to it. While they were off on adventures she was home making automail, or else traveling to clients' houses to maintain theirs.
Winry crossed her arms, nibbling on her bottom lip as she stood there awkwardly. She smiled at anyone who passed, offering a friendly hello. So maybe the first faces she saw weren't Ed and Al's, but unless they had been waiting on the other side of the door to that room that wouldn't have happened anyway. She bounced on her feet, feeling increasingly impatient. Those two were never on time, were they?
