[To anyone who's talked to Al so far EXCEPT Winry]
My friend Winry from home showed up today! I'm really excited. She's like my big sister. I want to make her feel welcome. Is there something nice that's food or machinery related that I could get her to make her feel a little less stressed about being here? I haven't gone to any of the shops yet.

[Private to Emma, Ed, and Charles Xavier]
Ms. Frost, Winry, Ed and I's friend from back home, has arrived. She's sixteen like Ed and a really brilliant automail mechanic. She's like our family, her grandma took us in after our mother died when we were little. Can she come live at the mansion too? She can stay in our room with us so it's not more space, but she'd need food? We can work to pay for her, we still need jobs anyway to earn money. I was hoping she could go to school with us too? I'm sorry to be asking for more favors so soon.

Let's just pretend I'm making really sad puppy dog eyes.
Like, Black Hayate-level cute puppy eyes.
For Winry to stay with us.

Chocolate chip cookies are delicious. So’s ice cream.

Oh! That's true and a good idea. Are they expensive here? Do you have a suggestion of where to get them?

Most grocery stores have them. And they shouldn't be more than ten bucks or so.

That does not sound like the kind of money I have from home. Would I be able to borrow that from you for a few days? Ms. Frost said she'd give us some money while we're looking for jobs so I can pay you back. I just want my friend to be less upset now.

I don't mind at all. I'll even help you pick out some ice cream given how many flavors they got.

Thank you! That'll be really fun. Maybe you can show me some of your other favorite things while we're there so I know what to try later!

Sure. Grocery stores have a LOT of different foods. Having a guide to help you through it the first few times is a good thing. I'm sure the people at the mansion will help too if you ever need it.

Wow! It sounds like I'll be able to add lots of foods to the list!

Thank you for helping me so much. You're a good friend!

Machinery related in quarantine is a bit tough. Maybe something small she can take apart that you guys don't have back home?

! I hadn't even thought of that. She makes what you'd call cybernetics here? I did some research because of Ed's leg. Would I be able to get a small thing related to that? Or something simpler with circuit boards?

Fancy stuff. It's probably not that common in this place, considering this world is a little bit like my own. We had cybernetics, but they're hard to get hold of. You might be able to get an old circuit board from a repair shop

Maybe that's not the right word? It's meshing machines with body parts, making working limbs from machines. Ah, good to know it's uncommon. Would that be something to hide from the local people?

I'll see about going to a repair shop and asking for it. That's a great idea!

Where it's hooked up to your nerves and you control it that way? She'd have to tell you more details. We call it automail at home.

(Private)
My brother has it for most of his left leg. It's good Winry is here so she can maintain it.

That is definitely not common. Prosthetics, sure, and some of them even get close to being fully articulated, but most people can barely afford even those.

[Private]

We've got a guy back home who's mostly machine, actually. He's cool.

It's expensive at home too. It's a craft taught through families and apprenticeship for years.

(Private)
That sounds hard for him. I'm glad he has automail or the like. I never really thought about the cost. Granny Pinako didn't charge us? I don't know. I wasn't thinking clearly. I'm glad he's okay now. You wouldn't know he had it if you saw him fight or doing anything normal. I just don't want to broadcast it. In case someone tried to hurt him with it.

Huh. That's new.

Probably should be your brother's choice anyway if he wants it to be general knowledge. But that's good he got help.

If you're free later, would you mind coming with me to drop Winry's things off? I'm worried they won't let her have it if I go by myself.

No ideas here about that. My brother and I have been held prisoner before, it's nice to know if your friends have the ability to come save you or not.

Winry will be released tomorrow. James is going to take me to get ice cream and loan me the money for it. I'll try to get her something mechanical at the repair shop and then she'll be occupied and have good food to distract her.

Kid, you are too young for that shit stuff. I should know.

Take your friend out, do boring, normalish things, have a childhood.

I'm not a kid though. It's okay, we're all alive and together now. We got as much of our bodies back as we could expect to. Things could be so much worse. I'm happy here.

Of course she can stay at the mansion. And there are enough rooms that she should have own. Three to one room is a bit much and a young woman needs her privacy. You needn't worry about food. The kitchen is open to the three of you. Please add Charles Xavier to this filter so he's aware of a new person in his mansion.

I can meet with Winry when she's free to discuss school and go through the same process I did with you and your brother. As for money, don't worry about it for now. I'll set you three up with a monthly allowance while you get acclimated to this world. When you've eventually found employment we can revisit this.

I added him. I'm sorry Mr. Xavier that we didn't have you added. Thank you for letting us stay in your mansion. It's the nicest place we've ever lived. I'm happy to work and help out around the house if you want me to. I can mend things that break and clean things easily.

Ms. Frost, thank you so much! I really appreciate it. I don't know anything about women and privacy but okay? I already told her about what I'm taking in school. She'll be a good student.

We can't take more of your money and generosity. It's already so much that we're allowed to live here and go to school. But that's so kind of you to offer. Is there some work I could do for you instead? I can mend things perfectly if you have all the pieces or make clothes if you have a detailed drawing and the fabric?

When she's freed from quarantine, let's do the same thing as before. She can have one day to get a tour of the mansion and the next day we'll figure out her school schedule and get her enrolled.

Don't be silly. I wouldn't offer if it put me out in any way. Take the money, save it, and then when you're eventually working I can stop. I appreciate the sentiment, but I don't especially enjoy employing child laborers. And I already have a few taylors on retainer back in New York. It's fine. Focus on your studies.

Okay. Thank you, we really appreciate all of your help!

I'm enjoying school a lot! Especially my science, math, and art classes. I want to learn to draw kittens and cats, and other cute animals.

I've been thinking about what sort of work I should do. Jason said there are repair places because I might get a circuit board for Winry there, maybe I could work at one of those for weapons or simple machines?
