It's taken a bit of a detour. I read Austen's Northanger Abbey, and found that in order to appreciate it as a humourous take on the works of Ann Radcliffe and popular gothic writers of the time, I had to read Radcliffe.
And so I am entrenched in the trials of Miss Emily St. Aubert in The Mysteries of Udolpho.
