For a moment Aracely thought she was having a nightmare. It was the silence, the utter absence of voices or the sort of background hum that indicated the presence of people whose actual thoughts she'd managed to tune out. It hadn't happened often in real life - that last week in space, really, since in her very first memory when she was half-aware of her surroundings in a shipping crate on the hot Houston tarmac she hadn't known what was missing. So it made sense that it would probably be a nightmare - statistically, or whatever. (She did have to go to school now. She did not have to be a particularly good student, especially when it was so easy to cheat.) |
