>Sollux: Arrive
This was new. This wasn’t a part of any of the previously-established patterns that this session had already set out. He was surrounded by hives and communal hive stems. And there were still underlings around, but they were new types. And they didn’t have the usual jocular outfits. But whatever. They were trying to kill him so they were going to die.

He had no idea what new kind of mission he’d been sucked into, but he knew he’d rather be back on the horn pile with Feferi than here. And it was going to storm soon. Of course, he didn’t know that through any other means than the dark clouds overhead. Or so the people on this primitive communication device insisted. Humans were more used to living on land than trolls were.

He had his own matters to deal with. Like why his vision twofold and the voices were gone. Had all of his friends been slaughtered? Was this some place where people were incapable of dying? He had no idea, he couldn’t see a bloody thing. Well, he saw lots of bloody things, the monsters that had met with their untimely demise as he moved through the streets. But he couldn’t see what was coming, only what was right in front of him. And that was more monsters that needed killing. Bastards weren't even dropping any grist. "Fuck thish shit." He took off his sunglasses to blast a whole row of monsters away from him.

The monsters had returned, and it wasn't his guard shift at the apartment building, so Golbez had gone out to try and shrink the horde. Once again, it was mostly those half-dog, half-cat creatures, some of them mere nuisances but some of them an actual threat, especially with his magic weakened as it was.

When he caught sight of the troll, his first instinct was that it was just another monster -- he'd come across plenty of humanoid monsters back in his own world. But, no... it was actually fighting against the monsters.

Golbez waited until the coast was clear to speak up, to keep from distracting the... whatever it was. "I take it you're not one of them."

"Ishn't it obvioush?" He put his sunglasses back on, pulled out a lamppost with a wide gesture of his arm, and used it to flatted another group of monsters. Another human. Great.

"It is now."

For someone so small in stature, he was rather powerful. While Sollux took that group out, Golbez focused an ice spell on another group coming down the street. They just didn't seem to end. Were these creatures the force responsible for this universe's downfall? Or were they simply a symptom of it?

"You're new," he observed simply. "I gather you've heard that child's explanation?"

"Yesh," he said. "But I don't give a sshit. Fuck off." To say he was irritated was an understatement. But he was going to push forward. He continued laying waste to the monsters, heading further along down the street.

This kid (yes, he was definitely a kid) was... kind of a brat, actually. Though it probably didn't help that Golbez had absolutely no experience with children.

...well, except for that one time.

He was powerful, though. He could be a decent asset. "Very well. But if you wouldn't mind stopping by the Mercy Street Apartments once you have a moment, there's a woman there who I'm sure would like to speak with you."

"Where is the next portal? Obvioushly there ish shome kind of glitch in the shyshtem," he wasn't going to waste his time with this if it had no bearing on the game itself. Even if they were all doomed anyway.

"Portal?" System? Glitch? Ah-- he must not have truly understood what the child had told him. "You don't understand. We seem to have no choice but to remain in this world until the child decides otherwise."

"Yesh, the portal to get to the nexsht level," he said, as though this was the most obvious thing in the world. Obviously this guy was just another construct of the game, meant to give him some stupid mission. He didn't have time for this.

"There is no other 'level'. I'm afraid you can't leave."

Level of what? Of a dungeon, or...? Two different wavelengths here.

He sighed heavily in resignation. "Fine. Whatever." But he didn't actually believe him. This was just a particularly stubborn bit of programming, that's all. One of the downsides to living in a game.

The boy didn't seem to want to listen, and he was more than capable of handling himself against the monsters, so Golbez didn't have much reason to stick around. Someone else could be in need of help.

Before he left, though, he added, "You can find a map inside any of the buildings, and if you need any assistance, the you can reach anyone else in the city with the radio you were given."

Have fun with those monsters, Sollux.

"Whoa," Lillet had been running from the monsters so far. The air in the city was as devoid of mana as the Claw mountains back home, and she wasn't a griffin to take advantage of that. She was a magician, substantially lacking in magical resources. Without a familiar, the best she could do was a burst of light and noise to keep the creatures away.

And then the monsters she'd been about to run around had been taken out by a blast of red and blue. From... a tiny devil? Well, she wasn't going to look a gift magician in the mouth. "Thank goodness! I thought I was a goner for sure..."

You humans have such a narrow view of things with horns. "I washn't shaving you. I don't have time to waste with shtupid humansh."

Her apologies; a tiny devil, or a bizarre unicorn. Bicorn. Whatever he was, his magic was nowhere near as useless as hers. If he wasn't so antagonistic, she might've considered asking for help. But, nope.

"Then I won't thank you! But it's lucky you were here."

Quadricorn! It's okay, he's used to having more than the normal amount of horns. He sighed, and stopped killing the monsters with various extraneous bits of the landscape. "Fine, I'm a douche." There was quite a bit of distance between himself and the monsters, so he could afford a bit of a break. "It'sh not like I'm making a differensh in how many of them there are."

"Tell me about it. This town must be full of those things." She glanced around, unnerved by the total lack of mana. Again, she opened the tome she was holding to leaf through pages of runes and diagrams. "I thought they were chimeras, but they're not magical at all.

"But if we're being polite now, I'm Lillet."

"Sholluxsh," he replied. "Yeah, they're pathetic." He hovered the radio in midair, and listened to some of the chatter on it.

"I guess it's good that some spells are working," Lillet said, "That's mind magic you're using, right? Maybe if I summoned a Homunculus-- oh, sorry. It's nice to meet you, um, Sollux?"

He didn't correct his name, so it's best to assume she was right. "Magic doeshn't exisht." He looked at her as if this were the most well-known thing in their worlds. "It'sh only in shtoriesh for shtupid little wigglersh."

Unfortunately for his look, he was wearing shades. Lillet frowned.

"Magic most certainly does exist."
