Nightfall [Open, action and radio and also for Lelouch, Fletcher and Patience if they want]
Open: [As darkness began to fall the sounds of the monsters faded as the moved away from the centre of the city. Suzaku had no idea why and he worried about it. Why would they just retreat? Was it the darkness? That would be strange, Suzaku had read stories where monsters came out at night and retreated in the day but never the other way round.

He made one more loop of the street, he had a shallow scratch on one of his legs, the bottom of his trousers were ripped a little, there was a deeper scratch on his arm but nothing serious. He was wearing the normal clothes that Lelouch had given him, they were blood stained but most of it wasn't his own. He was still wearing the Zero mask. He pulled the radio out of his pocket.]

The monsters are retreating from the central area of the city, what is the situation elsewhere?

A little later, for Lelouch, Fletcher and Patience: Suzaku checked the streets nearby and the whole apartment building for any remaining monsters before heading to the apartment. It seemed the situation was similar over the whole city and the monsters were gone... for now. He reached up to knock on the door realising there was blood on his hand.

Six months of peace, not everything had been perfect but... Suzaku hadn't had to kill since Zero Requiem had been completed. Though he could and should never rid himself of the guilt of all those he had killed before, he hadn't had to kill...

Until today and though they were monsters, monsters that wanted to kill them they still bled and died the same way as humans had. He had lost count of how many he had shot at today... He knocked quietly and rested his head, still wearing the mask, against the door feeling the urge to laugh at the whole situation.

"You're hurt." The childish voice came from Suzaku's feet, as Kyuubey melted out of the shadows of the wall. "Hey, Suzaku. You must've fought a lot today!"

Suzaku blinked at the voice, "Kyuubey? You managed to escape then?" He had done a sweep of the nearby streets to see if he could see the strange creature after Lelouch had claimed to got rid of him, because he couldn't ignore the plea for help, but hadn't seen it at all.

He nodded, "there were a lot of monsters."

It shook its head, and stepped aside to reveal a small pile of scraps that looked alarmingly like its mostly-eaten corpse. It had already found and consumed the bottle of energy whole, the liquid soothing away inconsistencies in the back of its mind. The glass bottle wasn't bad either.

"Nope. Lelouch got me good! I wonder why he decided to kill me... At least it didn't stick."

Suzaku barely rose an eyebrow at the corpse, whatever Kyuubey was he was obviously not human and many animals ate other animals. Suzaku had seen enough of the corpses that day that another one barely registered.

His words though confused Suzaku. "Are you saying you died?"

Suzaku was silent for a moment taking in that information. "That... is strange? You... That isn't normal..." Because really, monsters, death not being death, strange creatures that spoke into your mind... It was all a little too much.

"Right? It's lucky, though. Maybe Lelouch knew it wasn't permanent."

It wasn't really a lie. There was a miniscule chance that the boy had assumed they were too valuable to let die, but Kyuubey sincerely doubted it. "By the way, if you ever need to talk to me, I've set up a telepathy field. You can talk to Fletcher that way too, if I'm close enough!"

"Perhaps..." Suzaku doubted it, Lelouch had definitly wanted the creature dead.

He blinked at the idea of a telepathy field. "Really, can Fletcher hear us now?"

Fletcher was sitting in his room not doing much of anything when he heard Kyuubey's voice in his head. It was like he was hearing one side of a conversation... but he heard enough to figure out what was going on.

So Kyuubey was alive... that was such a relief. A telepathy field? he asked, once Kyuubey mentioned his name.

"You have to think it," Kyuubey corrected. "Lelouch doesn't wanna see me, so I won't stay here. But this way, we can still talk to each other. Neat, huh?"

"Oh," Suzaku nodded and heard Fletcher's voice. It was strange. Fletcher, he answered, Yes apparantly.

I'm glad you're okay, Kyuubey, Fletcher said, but he looked around nervously. What if Lelouch could hear them, somehow? Um... How did... how did you not die?

"I died, alright," Kyuubey tilted its head, which would only really supplement Suzaku's side of the conversation. "But I came back a couple of hours ago. And don't worry, okay? Lelouch doesn't like me for some reason, so I'll respect his wishes and stay away from him."

Lelouch checked the peephole, and saw that familiar non-face. He opened the door, and made sure the build of the individual wearing it matched the one it left the building with. He stood aside, and let him in. "Is it the same across the rest of the city?"

Slightly disturbed from his conversation with Kyuubey, not to mention the rest of the events of the day Suzaku nodded to Lelouch and entered the apartment. He didn't take the mask off, becuase Patience was still there. "Seems to be, they've retreated for now, who knows when they will be back."

"Come with me," he said, leading him to the bathroom. "You should have those cuts addressed." Once they were both in there, he locked the door behind them so that they would not be disturbed.

Suzaku frowned but followed, he needed to speak to Lelouch in private anyways. He didn't particulary care about the cuts, he hadn't really noticed them.

"Kyuubey's alive," he said the moment the door was shut, the mask stayed on, force of habbit.

Lelouch got a certain look of shock on his face that didn't come up often. "How? I saw it get torn apart by the monsters." He wasn't foolish enough to not confirm his kills. But he opened the sleeve on Suzaku's shirt to get to the scratch there, and pulled out a first aid kit.

Suzaku shrugged, "It said it woke up in the hospital..." He jerked away slightly, "I'm fine," he didn't hurt, and they had more important things to deal with than cuts and bruises. "I'd say someone rescued it... but those monsters didn't seem the type to leave anything alive."

"I can't have you terrifying the child," he insisted, pulling Suzaku back toward him. "Any more than he already is."

He was clearly used to this kind of thing, he was solely responsible for his own wounds during most of his rebellion. After all, there was no easier way for people to get clues to his identity.

"This is just another aspect of this place that we have to calculate. But I have a request to make of you." He reached up to take the helmet off of him. Once he could look Suzaku in the eye, his look seemed to have a dangerous kind of distrust and determination in it. "I want to know what you do. What has happened to you, and possibly to Cornelia, that I don't know about."

There probably wasn't much more that could terrify the child, after everything that had happened. After being dragged to a different world, monsters turning up and witnessing Lelouch throw Kyuubey to said monsters a cut or two was probably not going to frighten him.

But Suzaku stood still and didn't resist when the helmet was taken off. He shrugged at the question. "Cornelia has lost even more memories than you, it seems from what she said that for her Euphemia has just died, which explains her anger." He paused a bit at the next part, "It's a lot to take in Lelouch, are you sure you want to hear it?"

"The only reason why I have been trusting you thus far is because of this," he said, setting the helmet down on the counter with a noted knock sound. "Your costume is no mere copy. I recognize my own work when I see it. Why would I give you, the person that has betrayed me and Nunnally multiple times, my mantle to wear?" There was a simmering anger in his voice.

An anger that Suzaku recognised and deserved. Once it would have been met by an anger of his own, for their had been hurt on both sides. But Suzaku had no desire to open old wounds and rehash old arguments. But Lelouch wasn't giving him a choice, it was the voice of the emperor even though he didn't even remember being emperor.

Suzaku sat on the edge of the bath and sighed. "Because Nunnally deserved a gentle world where she could live in peace," it was the simple answer and not the one Lelouch wanted. "Your father and mother wanted to stop time, to freeze the world and take away free choice, you defied them and the gods and you made a plan to create that gentle world, even though we both believed Nunally was dead."

"You became emperor, I became you knight... and together we brought the world to it's knees. I lost count... of how many people we killed, you forced the anger of the world onto you, so that everybody elses sins would be forgotten."

To this day Suzaku was surprised it had worked, and he glanced at Lelouch to see how he was taking it. "We faked my death in battle, you took Damocles and defeated Schneizel..."

"Two months later on your orders you died, at the hands of Zero defender of the weak punisher of those who opress others." He nodded at the mask. "No one knows it is me, Zero is just a symbol, Nunally is emperess now, the world is at peace."

Lelouch watched Suzaku as he answered the questions. Surely he couldn't take this at face value. He was a traitor. But then, everything he was saying made sense. That would be a solution. His whole life was in symbols. They were part and parcel of his entire strategy. He leaned his back against the door and stared at Suzaku. The more he thought about it, the more it made sense. He wasn't sure how much he trusted him, still. But he believed this much. "Of course you couldn't be dead. Not after the curse I placed on you." When he thought of that day, his eye itched.

Suzaku waited silently as Lelouch took in the information, he wasn't sure what he was expecting; anger, denial. But the comment took Suzaku by surprise. "Yes, that was why it had to be me." He touched his eye absantly, he had once been furious about the Geass but now... now he had accepted his punishment and that was part of it. To keep living.
