The night's sleep had restored what the world had drained, and when Lillet woke up, she knew instinctively that she'd have enough mana to alchemise a little of what she needed to be useful. Since she already had the flask and materials assembled, it wasn't a case of drawing a Rune so much as inscribing a small symbol on the inside of the flask with one glowing fingernail, and then pressing her entire palm against the suddenly-warm glass to infuse it with enough mana to create life.

The substances swirled within the glass, chaotically at first, but soon enough eyes formed, a mouth, the cat skull grew and malformed and sprouted muscles and skin and fur, barely fitting into the flask, and the rest of the creature's body formed within the narrower neck and expanded into the air, claws wriggling a little until Lillet obliged and tugged them straight. By the time it blinked and stared through its flask at her, she was ready to lift it and set it upright.

"My creator!" It greeted her, cheerful voice muffled by the flask. "What do you command?"

"First things first: we're going on a walk," she said. "I have to introduce you to everyone!" And, after a short pause, she knelt down to inscribe something else on the flask.

Hello, the writing read, My name is Blende. If found, please return to Lillet Blan!.

With that, she collected it in her arms (it snuggled as well as it could), and left to knock on everyone's doors. They'd be up, right?

Golbez was on his way down to door guard duty when he came across Lillet going door to door. And... what was that thing in her arms?

"Lillet," he said by way of greeting, with a nod. "Is that..."

"This is Blende!" She hefted it in her arms, and it wiggled one slightly trapped paw in a wave. "Blende, this is Mr. Golbez. He's one of the guards here! Can you obey his orders as well as mine?"

When the flask bobbed and the homunculus had chirped out an affirmative, she grinned up at Golbez again. "Good morning."

He blinked in surprise. After only a day, this girl thought well enough of him to give her creation such an order?

"Good morning. So, this is a homunculus," he presumed. "I've never seen anything like it."

Lillet's plan involved giving Blende an order like that for everyone in the building. After all, she had overriding command as its creator, and as a savvy alchemist she had a piece of its flask in her pocket, in case she needed to banish it in a hurry. But it was nice to be able to trust people.

"They don't leave the lab much... It's a shame, because they're really useful. Blende here is a powerful clairvoyant! It can even sense ghosts and spirits, and bring them into the realm of substance."

"Impressive." That was an understatement. "Its abilities should prove useful for our survival. Lillet, are these creatures commonly used in your world?" Or was she particularly high-level?

"Well, Homunculi have been used by magicians for hundreds of years, but recent developments in the field of Alchemy have made it a lot easier. A lot of people find them scary, though, so they aren't used much in towns or villages."

If he didn't think Lillet was the model student type, he probably did now.

That was for sure. It was quickly becoming clear just how much of a prodigy Lillet was.

"Alchemy, hm... When you have more time, would you mind telling me more about how magic works in your world?" A forward question, to be sure, but he was just that interested in the subject. That, and everyone in the city could only stand to benefit from learning more about each other's abilities.

"Of course. In return, could I ask you about your magic? I didn't mean to spy, but I saw you fighting outside yesterday..."

She'd been rather startled at such direct, combat-geared magic, if she was honest. Most of the spells she knew were more subtle than just fireballs or explosions.

"Ah-- yes, by all means." That made sense; while he was impressed at the things she did, it was probably the same the other way around. "It's very basic elemental magic, but I wouldn't mind."

"It may be basic, but there's no denying how effective it is. I've got to introduce Blende to everyone first, so if I come back here after that..?"

Who in the world is knocking? Maybe it's Vincent...if he wasn't sleeping in the bed across the room. Okay, that's out. It wasn't as if Elliot had really gotten to know anyone in the building to warrant a visit of any kind either.

A little stumped, Elliot opens the door and looks out. "Hello...?" He's dressed in his white blouse and dress pants, having left his tie and jacket on the chair. Who - ?

"Good morning," Lillet smiled around the homunculus humming in her arms. She'd stopped being too put off by confused faces a few time shenanigans ago, but she looked sheepish anyway. "I'm sorry if I woke you, but I need to make sure my homunculus recognises everyone. I'm Lillet Blan, and this is Blende."

Day was awake already doing some more work on the King of Poisons, she was hoping that by the end of today they would have clean water. At the knock on the door she went over to open it.

"Hello?" Oh it was the kid in the pointy hat from Cornelia's office, Day smiled, "Is everything alright?"

"Good morning," she managed not to backpeddle too dramatically when she realised it was the dart gun lady, but the Homunculus muttered a complaint when her arms tightened around it anyway. "Um. I just created Blende here, and it needs to meet everyone."

"Morning." She did a double take at the flask with legs. She rubbed her eyes and blinked. "What?" Because that... couldn't be real, it had to be...

Well she had no idea... Maybe the fumes had affected her worse than she thought, she should probably warn Lightning and Fang, in case they started halucinating too.

"It has a name..." The kid was insane, "Magic doesn't exist." She told her firmly, "Naming a flask does not change that." She rubbed her eyes again, "Story books are for children."

Yet there was that Gurkish woman... Day shook her head. Magic was stupid, and flasks didn't have legs.

Blende squirmed again, clawed hands scraping against the neck of the bottle as it demanded to be righted. Lillet obliged, looking more than a little put-out by Day's insistence. Once upright, the homunculus blinked owlishly at Day, and Lillet patted the side of its flask.

"I don't get how you and Sollux can say that sort of thing when it's right in front of you."

Day shook her head, "Because magic is for children and fairy tales, this... if I'm not halucinating has to be science." There had to be a logical process to this, maybe science was just more advanced in other worlds. After all these guns... they didn't have those in Day's world either. But they were definatly not magic.

She peered at the kid again. "How did you make... Blende?"

"Magic is one of the fundamental forces in the universe," Lillet corrected. "Like Alchemy - creating artificial lives through magical syntheses. That's how Blende was made."

Right. Well that made no sense what so ever, Day nodded anyways though, because... well there wasn't much else she could do.

"Could you show me?"

Lillet hesitated. Sure, she had some mana reserves left, but... Then again, if it would help people actually believe what she did was real, it'd be worth it. She hoped.

"You mean, right now?"

Day blinked, "Well if you want to..." She hadn't really thought this through but she held the door open wider anyways. "It doesn't... hurt you or anything right?" Because magic was freaky and always had a price in the stories.

"Not at all, but it can be a little tiring." Luckily, she'd been planning to create a Blob or two anyway, so she already had the little bottle of green goop in one of her many pockets. Once she'd stepped inside Day's apartment, she fished it out and held it up. "These are the raw materials! They were developed over hundreds of years by powerful alchemists, but now they're sealed into Runes and any magician can use them if they can cast it."

She located a clear space on a surface - reasonably away from the apparatus already set up, and that explained a lot of her sceptism - and placed the vial on it.

Day peered at the green gloop, developed over hundreds of years? That sounded more like science than magic. "Runes?" She asked as she followed the kid over to the clear space and looked at the vial with interest.

"You can cast powerful, complicated magic if you use magical runes in the right way." She sketched a basic Laboratory rune in the air, infusing it with the barest amount of mana. It wasn't functioning, but the lines and words spun visibly with faint golden light. "This is a storage-type Rune. It contains a laboratory, and this..." She poured out the contents of the vial, a thick, viscious liquid, and placed her hand over it, "will be a familiar."

A burst of her remaining mana later, and the goo ballooned into a sphere the size of a person's head. As Lillet turned to smile at Day, it was sprouting a mouth and eyes.

Day watched in interest; the rune thing was interesting, not that she believed in any of this but...

But the kid had no need to lie, from what Day could see, so she watched as the goo turned into... whatever that was.

Her eyes widened and she looked at the kid. "Alright kid... I guess... That's no science I've ever heard of so we can call it magic." She stared back at the blob, as it gained eyes and a mouth.

The facial features seemed to be entirely cosmetic; the Blob just burbled happily, making gooey noises as it bounced back across the table into Lillet's hands.

"I'm glad," the small magician smiled, an honest expression. "And you don't have to worry, I'm only going to use my magic to help people. I'm a good magician."

It was rather cute actually. Day smiled at the kid and let out a small laugh. "Glad to hear it, and I'm a good poisoner." Most of the time anyways...

"Names Day by the way, what's yours?"

"Lillet Blan," the witch grinned as she lifted the Blob so it could seep onto her hat. It sent out small gooey tendrils to anchor itself to the ribbons, and seemed to be content just to hang there. The added weight, however, meant that Lillet had to quickly adjust her hat into a slight tilt.

"You're a poisoner? Did you work for a noble house?"

"Lillet Blan," Day repeated with a smile raising an eyebrow at the blob.

"Mostly, well my master did; I was an apprentice until recently and we were hired by a woman with anger problems, she was no noble though she probably wanted to be," she still hadn't forgiven Murocotta for leading her to her death.

"How about you Lillet, people hire witches to do their dirty work in your world?"

Oh dear. Lillet smiled, a sheepish, lilted thing, and jostled the creature in her arms carefully as it waved at the sleepy boy.
