Who: Cissie King-Jones and Hal Jordan
What: The JLA's other liaison to the Teen Titans shows up to make sure the tower is still standing... oh and that the kids are okay. That's important too.
When: Friday, December 9, 2011
Where: Titans' Tower, SanFran, California
Why: Because it's been a while since the JLA checked up on the kids
One thing that couldn't be said was that it had been slow recently. An outbreak of an odd infection, a prisoner convoy going missing, the paper that Cissie has actually missed because Solomon Grundy had made an appearance - literally walking out of the Bay like Godzilla? Yeah, Mrs. Talbot hadn't liked the excuse, Cissie had actually blamed it on a necessary court visit with her mother. Maybe Bonnie did come in handy to use as an excuse sometimes.
There was some hope that maybe, just maybe, the bad guys would take a break for Christmas. But somehow she doubted it. After all Christmas posed its own problems. She'd been invited by Max and Bart to spend it with them in Manchester, but she wasn't sure and she didn't want to intrude. Elias always did something for the girls who stayed behind, but usually that meant her and about four others, three of whom had graduated last year, one of whom Cissie did her best to stay the hell away from. So Christmas would be interesting...
Pushing her hair back, she tried to focus on the textbook that sat on her lap. It was - at very least - rather quiet today. She'd heard through the grapevine that Lia was back, that was good. Over the last few months, Cissie had finally let her guard down. She'd let her hair down, moved some of her things into her room at the Tower. She'd taken her mask off a few times. It wasn't as if anyone knew her; it wasn't as if anyone would know where to find her. She wasn't anybody famous. She was a ward of the state, currently cloaked in the System. Finding her? Not all that likely. On the other hand, why would they want to? It had been a good move for her. It helped her feel more normal. A community of people her own age who also were going through (at least part) of what she was as well? Who could ask for more?
Unfortunately that meant there was still schoolwork to be done. And right now she hated Trig. REALLY hated trig. She would have given anything for a distraction, but things were oddly quiet. Maybe some of the baddies had day jobs. Those that weren't locked up. After all, being a supervillian wasn't cheap. All those traps and plans, not to mention the thugs... But no. Trig.
Crossing her legs on the couch, she tried to focus on it. When was she going to use trig in the real world? On the other hand if she wanted to stay on the Archery Team then she needed to keep her grades up. And it wasn't like she actually had parents to reprimand her so it either came from Helen (Max's daughter), or worse, from Principal David, who was a hardass through thick and thin. Had Dr. Money been alive she would have scolded her too... Just as Cissie was starting to get to the problem in question - which she finally realized was easier than she'd initially assessed, an alarm went off. But it wasn't the kind of alarm she was used to. The trouble outside alarm was klaxons. This one was a loud beeping. A warning of some kind. One she'd only heard once before. Who the hell would be trying to get into the tower? She got up, her book falling into the middle of the control room/hangout area, and she dashed to get something to defend herself with, she managed to find her mini-crossbow right where she'd left it. There was no indication of WHO it was...
