Imenry stared at the woman. She was saying something; but in no language Imenry had heard before. She had no idea what it meant. In that moment she seemed apologetic, and perhaps it would have made Imenry step back except that Brennan came forward. And what he said made Imenry set her jaw, narrowing her eyes at her old friend.
How long had he been in the village and already he was climbing into the bed of a woman who obviously expected more out of him than a simple roll in the hay. What an idiot. Apparently he'd climbed out of her window or something the night before. Maybe he did deserve the slap, and maybe the woman was very nice, but Imenry had suddenly had enough.
It had been a long day. She was running on little sleep and the adrenaline from the fight before was quickly fading. And this reunion was no longer overwhelmed by the mere fact that her friend was alive. Granted, she was still happy about that, but there were too many people around and Imenry was never prone to emotional displays in front of others. She quickly shut down, then stepped away from Brennan, casting the woman speaking the strange language one last distrustful glance. To Signy and Hilda she spoke. "I need to continue onto the Inn, get cleaned up and rest. But I'll see you both tonight for dinner? I fear we have a lot to discuss."
With that, she turned her back and made for the building that she'd originally intended to go to. Brennan would either follow, or he wouldn't, and right now her annoyance at him made her tell herself she didn't care either way.
