The race to his house had her laughing and feeling rather like a child again. She had to run twice as fast as Brennan to keep up with him, and this was the one time she did not appreciate his longer legs and his height difference. When they stopped at the door she nearly crashed into him, but instead wrapped her arms around him and let her tug him inside, laughing up at him and then leaning against the back of the door once it was shut at her back.
The boots came off first again, and she set them beside the door before straightening up to meet Brennan's gaze. She considered for a moment that she might tease him a bit, act as though her passions had waned. The ease with which he lit the fire made her smile, remembering how much trouble he'd once had summoning a tiny flame with which to impress her. Such memories made her decide that teasing and games were for another day as she stepped forward to close the space between them.
Lacing her hands behind his neck she tugged him down to meet her for a kiss. Her lips were soft against his, the kiss filled with a tenderness now rather than urgency, though she was sure that would rise again. Her hands slid slowly down his back, over the woolen material of his shirt until she found the hem again and pulled it off. The feel of his bare skin under her hands was familiar now, her palms coasting over the muscles in his back and shoulders, fingertips grazing along his arms as she slowly deepened the kiss.
She could close her eyes now and breathe him in, the smell of him, the taste of him on her tongue, the feel of his body under her hands. Her palm pressed over his chest, so that she could feel the beat his heart was drumming beneath his ribcage, so that she could know he was as affected as she was.
