Brennan's smile grew as his friend approached, and he self-consciously ran a hand through his hair to neaten it. It only made it more of a mess, so he stopped.
He gave an unrepentant shrug to her comment, adding, "Why should I? You do enough for the both of us." It might not work that way, but he was enjoying the warm snap that had settled on the village. He was not going to point out that at three years older than Imenry, he also had longer to learn and train. If he was really wanting to whine - which he never did except to mock others - he would point out that the other mage students were just as relaxed as him. It all came back to the fact that he was not exactly a dedicated student of magic and everyone knew it.
He preferred it that way, at least no one was talking about making him the next head mage. Iano thought he would get the position, but everyone else knew it was going to Kel. Anything he had to do to further ingrain the impression that he was not worth the position was better.
Such as skipping training altogether today, that sounded like a good plan.
He cast a devious and inquiring look to Imenry, wondering if she would go along with his sudden plans. There were plenty of things he would rather be doing than practicing. Most of those included things he wanted to do to Imenry. He offered his most heartfelt smile, already planning on coaxing her away from the training she doubtlessly wanted to do.
