Lillie was having a hard time warring between wanting to reassure Ordhan and her loyalty to Matthew. Maybe anything she told Ordhan would not bother him, but she didn't know. She'd never spoken in detail about him and his line of work to anyone. Tamrith had known him, though that had been because she'd been Lillie's closest friend at the time, and because she'd delivered the letters back and forth between them when Lillie had been forced to flee.
"He didn't work so much for the house, Ordhan. He worked specifically for the former Arlessa, Valere. He wasn't a knight in service like you are. More like... an advisor, a teacher to Azabeth in her sister. But if he was still there, I can see no reason why he'd have sat idly by as Azabeth was accused of this. So you see I must assume that Lelahai has dismissed him." She stood, pacing a few feet away. "I can't even gather what might have happened from what hints he gave in the last letters. I just know that he was troubled."
But Lillian had been so long traveling by sea now, and worry for Tamrith had pressed her to leave without sending word. If Matthew did write her again, telling her anything, it would be months again before the letter might be forwarded to her. She could only hope that she might be able to send another letter soon, explaining what she had learned and asking his advice. Who knew when they would be back in Denerim again?
She wanted to talk to Azabeth, but she did not know when she'd have the chance. To ask her what had happened, what she knew, and to offer her comfort when she must be scared. Even though the girl was long a woman now, Lillie still remembered her childish face streaked with dirt, her wild red hair flying behind her as she played carelessly with Lalin in the Alienage. How she longed for those simpler days.
