Ordhan took her free hand in his and Lillie squeezed it gently, offering him a smile as she pushed the door shut behind them with her hip. She slipped free of his hold momentarily to set the tray on the bedside table, then hurried to his side, leading him to sit on the bed. She took his cloak first, thinking he ought to be able to afford a new one at least, on a guard's pay. She hug that over a chair, then knelt to remove his boots.
Task completed she sat beside him, resting her head against his shoulder as her hand rubbed at his other one. There was tension in him, as usual, but he seemed to be letting that go more easily as time passed. Her fingers played idly along the line of his shoulders, rubbing lightly at the base of his skull and fingers slipping now and again into the strands of his hair.
She reached over for a cup of hot cider and passed it to him, letting him sip at it to warm himself. After a time she pressed her cheek against his arm lightly. "What's wrong?"
The question was simply said, and he would answer. Ordhan came to her when he needed to talk. Not just when he needed other things. She would listen. She figured that listening helped him somehow, even if she couldn't truly help him with anything. Maybe listening did something.
