She stopped, then glanced down at his hand, suspiciously. Why would a boy try and hold her hand? Only her Mother or Father ever held her hands, sometimes when they were walking places. Sometimes they'd both hold her hands and she'd jump and swing between them and it made her giggle. But there was only Brennan here and he was bigger than her but not that much bigger. Maybe he was just scared.
She closed her own gloved hand around his.
"This way," tugging him after her she waded through the snow towards the more packed main path that led up the village. A new guard was standing there now, bundled up so that only his eyes showed.
His voice was muffled when he spoke. "You kids should get inside. Storm is gonna get bad."
"We're going to my house!" Imenry announced in return, then dragged Brennan after her. Her house was the third one on the left just off the village square. It was made of stone just like all the others, uniform in size and shape. She could see the lights through the windows, and stomped her feet as she climbed the steps.
Her free hand closed around the doorknob and it swung inwards with a gust of wind and snow. Her mothers voice was scolding from further inside, "Imenry where have you been? Get inside and close the door! You're going to make the house cold."
Once she and Brennan were inside she shoved the door shut tightly. One finger of her glove was caught between her teeth and tugged off. She plopped down on the floor, shaking the other one free before reaching down to tug off her boots. She glanced up at Brennan. "You have to take off your shoes and coat here so we don't track in snow."
