Who: Lillian Tharelle and Jill Sorrel
When: 9:45, Evening 21 Molioris
Where: At camp in the evening.
Summary: Lillie takes Jill under her wing.
There were people everywhere and tents and…Jill Sorrel drew in a deep breath, again fighting down the panic that had been threatening to overtake her all day. It didn’t go away, she pushed it down, but every time she though…yeah, she really had to stop thinking.
She bent down to put away the brush she had been using to groom Salma in her saddle bag. The horse loved the attention, and for once she was getting more than her fill. Jill had been brushing her for almost an hour, her red coat was shining and there were no twigs or leaves left to pry away from her mane.
These people, the Grey Wardens and their companions, were like no group Jill had ever encountered, but then she had very, very rarely travelled with company at all. It confused her, everything from the fire to the ring of tents surrounding it. She was used to much simpler camps, if she stopped to camp at all. Ah, there it was again, the type of thought that she was trying to ward off. She dragged a hand through her hair, transferring a lot of horse hairs to her shirt and a smudge of dirt to her nose.
They had made her come with them, given her clean clothing and treated her nicely. She brushed a hand over her borrowed trousers, and tugged at the rolled up sleeves of Conlan’s shirt. If they only knew what she had done, then they would not be as nice. Leaning her forehead against Salma’s neck, she tugged at the silver chain around her neck until it was cutting into the soft skin of her neck. Once it had been a seal of the teyrns approval, of his trust in her and her oath. Now, the oath was broken and the signet on its chain had turned into a heavy weight around her neck. Closing her hand around it she tensed her arm, imagining how she could lift it off and then raise her arm high. The silver would gleam in the light from the fire, and then disappear in the dark.
But she couldn’t make herself do it, and remained standing still, face buried in the soft fur at Salma’s throat.
