Imenry bit down on her lower lip thoughtfully and eyed the small woman as she considered the question. Time was money after all, and each of the suggested trips longer than the last. Imenry was familiar with the paths and roads, the best and shortest routes across Thedas. Two years of constant travel had sharpened her sense of direction and her pace. But the Dwarf would slow her down a bit, and she would have to be watched, and fed. It would be a wonder if she even knew how to gather firewood.
"Lake Calenhad is not far, but the route still requires travel down the mountains. I can get you there for four sovreigns. Eight to Denerim. Now Val Royeaux is tricky. The best way to get there is by boat, so you would have to provide payment for that in addition to what I charge to get you to the coast. It would probably come to about twelve or fifteen, depending on how much the captains are ripping people off for lately."
She looked the woman from head to toe and shook her head.
"And those clothes will not do for travelling. Do you have something more suitable?"
She had to wonder for a moment why she was not asking for more money, but the woman, little more than a girl really, looked so lost and out of place among the sea of merchants and tents. It reminded her of how she had felt that first day she had descended from the mountains into an unfamiliar world. Though this Dwarf may have been ignorant of many facts of life, she was not retreating. That was something after all.
Besides, a trip back to a large city or even to the docks near Calenhad would provide her with contacts for other jobs. She had spent enough time traipsing through the mountains thinking of home. She almost hoped the young woman would bring trouble her way, because she could most certainly do with a little action.
