Nearly a month had gone by for Æolyn's new life in Denerim and so far, so good. The first week or so was rough on business, but those who didn't approve of her being able to afford a stand in the market place had all but tired of giving her a hard time. She knew that eventually they would stop and she was willing to wait it out. It became increasingly easier for her to hide her magic as she didn't get as mad anymore. After that first altercation when she met Ordhan things had actually gotten a lot better. She supposed no one wanted to give her an outwardly hard time because she had a knight on her side. She didn't mind that at all. She gave him free fruits whenever he would stop by as well as a generous discount if he ever stopped by to shop.
But so far, he was really the only "friend" she'd made in the city and he wasn't much of a friend. Not that she didn't enjoy talking to him or seeing him around, but she could tell that, while he was okay with her being an elf, part of that fact still unsetteled him a bit. But he was civil to her and for that she was thankful. But just a few days earlier Æolyn had happened upon a dark haired elf being harrassed by a rag tag group of human teenagers. Sneaking up on the group, she hid in the shadows of one of the buildings. If she tried to break up this scene she would surely be pulled into it and what good would that do either of them, but she couldn't just turn her cheek and walk away either. So she decided to have a little fun.
Keeping to the shadows, Æolyn got as close to the group as she dared. From her hiding place she could see them all clearly. The elf was a bit older than she was, but she couldn't tell by how much. The boys had to be nearly twenty but it was always so difficult to tell with humans. She mostly guessed at their ages based on the fact that the only amusement they could find was picking on an elven girl. Though that seemed to be a favorite pasttime in this city. Singling out the only blonde headed boy, Æolyn whispered a charm that her mentor with the Dalish had taught her. It was a harmless yet fun charm that enveloped the person in an invisible sheet of electricity. You couldn't tell it was there until you touched the person, and that's when the fun began. Another of the boys shoved the blonde one playfully on the shoulder and let out an overexaggerated yelp. "You shocked me you bastard!" he said loudly, shoving the boy again only to be shocked one more time.
This caught the attention of the third boy who in turn pushed the boy that had been shocked, but before he could make contact, Æolyn sent a shock wave through the air that hit the third boy just as the second pushed him. The bickering quickly turned into the three of them shoving each other around. With them distracted, Æolyn caught the elven girl's attention, beckoning her to her hide out. Gladly the other girl got up and scrambled away, following Lyn to safety. And so Æolyn got a second friend, a real friend. Her name was Caia Elerron and she had arrived very recently in the city with her younger brother, Galen.
The two girls grew close quickly and Æolyn finally got to feel what it was like to have someone close that wasn't a family member. It wasn't as scary as she'd thought it would be. Caia had invited Lyn over a number of times and vice versa, so one evening Æolyn decided to pay her friend a visit. Locking up her house, she stepped into the cool evening air and looked around her. The streets were pretty bare and a soft wind blew through them. Lyn pulled her shawl up over her shoulders more and set off towards the Alienage. She nodded once to the guard standing post over the entrance to the sectioned off portion of the city, though he did nothing more than scowl. Lyn didn't know his name, but she knew he wasn't one of the humans who was very fond of having her around. She didn't pay him much attention, however, and found her way easily to her friends house.
Lyn found the appropriate building and looked around before going inside. There wasn't really anyone around but some elven children playing just a few feet off. She didn't know what game they were playing, but it vaguely reminded her of one she played with the Dalish children when she stayed there and her heart ached slightly. She missed them all, but knew she'd find them again one day. Life always had a funny way of working itself out in the end. Ducking inside, she weaved down the hall of the apartment building, mentally counting doors in her head as she passed them and stopped before the one she remembered as Caia's. Raising a fist, she knocked lightly on the door and waited for it to be opened.
